The good news for everyone in detention was that there wasn't any sign of singing going on on the island today, so everyone could be spared from any further embarrassing admissions that they'd rather not have made

And of course after encountering Karla, Cassidy was high on Raven's list of people to torment. "Look what I have for you, Cassidy," she said, hoping her hand to let a tiny bit of dirty trickle to the floor.

"Not her fault. She is a good Queen," Cassidy murmured. "Karla will do what is best for her people and the land." She eyed Raven. "You can't hurt her. She has more power than you do."
There might have, unwisely, been a smile creeping across Cassidy's face at that.

"She does not," Raven snapped, hand snaking out to seize Cassidy by the throat. "She is weak and pathetic. As are you without your precious land to sustain you."
Re: Visiting Hours [07/25]broken_empathJuly 25 2012, 19:27:23 UTC
Raven flung Cassidy back against the wall and started to laugh. "Is that what you think?" she said. "You have not seen here as I have. Her power is weak and her mind is fractured and if she were truly free, she would have returned to her home by now. She is trapped, and her cage is just bigger than yours."
Re: Visiting Hours [07/25]noroselessthornJuly 25 2012, 19:35:09 UTC
Cassidy hit the wall with a small cry of pain. She pushed her hair out of her face to look up at Raven.
"It's what I know," she said with a rare show of confidence. "If she were truly broken like that, you would not be so angry. Karla is caged only by her determination to fight against people like you and that pink-clad tainted daughter of a whoreson bitch that you serve so faithfully."
Re: Visiting Hours [07/25]broken_empathJuly 25 2012, 19:38:32 UTC
"Oh, you have spirit now," Raven said, trying to let Cassidy know her words were true. She was growing more angry, each day she failed to twist someone like Karla or Jono and instead they got under her skin.
"All the more pleasure to me, then, to break it down." She called her Soul-Self forth, its black edges shimmering with red and gold, and let it loom over Cassidy. "I will strip your mind bare and find your darkest fears, and I will make them come true," she promised.

Even as she stared up at Raven, looking as brave as she could, part of her was inwardly recoiling from Raven's threat. She knew how stronger people like Sookie usually were after an afternoon of Raven's attention.
"I have no more hidden fears," she said rashly. "Everything that I have ever feared has come to pass. I'm a broken witch, unable to reach my Jewels, basic Craft or even touch the land that feeds my soul. What more can you do to me?"
Re: Visiting Hours [07/25]broken_empathJuly 25 2012, 20:28:14 UTC
"You are not truly broken, not yet," Raven said. And she would know. "You still have hope, just a tiny bit, that you will touch the land again, and reclaim your jewel. Let us see how brave you are when that hope dies."
She made her Soul-Self wrap around Cassidy, trying to plunge her into her darkest nightmare.
Re: Visiting Hours [07/25]noroselessthornJuly 25 2012, 22:27:04 UTC
Cassidy shook her head, eyes full of fear as she tried to scramble away from Raven. Her small amount of hope was what had kept her hanging on through everything.
"No," she whimpered. "You can't do that."
It was obvious that she wasn't going to be able fight against Raven for very much longer.

Within her Soul-Self, Raven could make someone's fears manifest. The walls around them vanished, replaced by lush green grass, tall trees, and vibrant flowers. But the smell of rot was in the air, and the trees fell and the grass withered and the flowers dropped their petals and died. The ground itself swarmed with worms and bugs.
And in Cassidy's hand, a tiger-eye jewel the crumpled to dust and blew away in the wind.

"The land," she murmured, reaching out to touch them.

[Argh, two typos above...I really am asleep. OPENING her hand to let a tiny bit of DIRT trickle...SIGH.]

"Karla?" She said, not understanding. "Karla is not here. Karla is away from all of this."

"Karla can beat you," she sing-songed. "She has her power and her sanity and is free like the birds."

It was stupid and brave ... and also untrue.
