Leadership, Friday, 3rd Period

"Sometimes, no matter how much time you've put in with a team or how well you've done leading them, you're going to have to step aside and let someone else take charge. Either you're approaching a situation from the wrong direction, or somebody else has a better skill set for the job and you have to let them go for it. Or maybe you're starting off ( Read more... )

Think back to times you haven't lead, but have been used in a support role. How do you deal with those support roles? Is there any specific time you think you did especially good - or bad - work because you weren't in charge?

Any other related thoughts?

Anakin didn't have to think too hard about this one; he'd been tagging along on a few of Jaina and Jacen's adventures since he was little, which was a completely different experience from taking the lead when it was him and Tahiri.

"Sure," he said. "Sometimes when you're not in charge, it frees you up to focus on some of the little details that the leader might not have time for because they're concentrating on the big picture. Spotting weaknesses in the enemy's defense, coming up with some strategy you might not have thought of otherwise. I never get to be in charge when my older brother and sister are around, so I get stuck in that role a lot. I've come up with some pretty good solutions that way before."

"Sometimes, a position like that is more of a leadership role than the person in charge," Squall added. "If the person in charge of the big picture isn't as experienced at the little details, they will actually need to follow orders from their subordinates."

"Most of the time, a leader is a follower," Squall decided. "And a person who can't be both simultaneously" -- i.e. Seifer -- "isn't much good at either. A squad commander has to follow the mission commander, and a mission commander has to follow the head of the organization. There is a chain of command." Squall shrugged. "I do best as a squad commander."

Rebecca was just going to scoff and return to her delusion that she always led everything and never came in second. Because that was how she worked.

WHO SHOT MAGNETO IN THE HEAD SO THE GUY WITH THE METAL SKELETON COULD DO ANYTHING.

But no, the lone nut gets the male lead in Brett Ratner's Dark Phoenix Saga.

Sigh.
