Science Classroom; Tuesday [ 08/02 ].

So there it was. A large chunk of rock sitting in the middle of a laboratory classroom, waiting to be researched. Jane wasn’t entirely sure it wanted to be researched, though, with all the elusiveness and mystery it was giving off, but, then again, geology was hardly her area of scientific expertise, and she had a feeling it wasn’t quite Miss ( Read more... )

Come on in and revel in your science-ness with your fellow sciencey types about this exciting opportunity to be scientific. Talk excitedly about the strange new rock or wax warnings of how it will probably doom us all.

Mysterious rock that appeared out of nowhere? Oh, you better believe Tony would be all over that. Possibly with just a little too much excitement showing as he'd arrived with his own tools and supplies ready.

Oh, sweet sweet science. His beloved.

Topher was practically bouncing when he arrived at the science classroom. He got to play with a big rock! People would be jealous; they didn't have a rock this big. Take that, Dave.

He had toys tools with him and he was ready to get to work playing with it. Uh. Doing science on it. That was what he meant.

Riiiiiight.

"You're here?" Tony had disdain for your science, Topher. Such disdain!

It’s strange, it’s mysterious, it’s waiting for you and your friends to discover something new and exciting about it. Better get crackin’! Poking around at strange rocks is always a good idea.

Claudia had already observed the squishiness the day before when she poked it with a rock, so she didn't remark on that when she poked it with a scalpel this time.

"Dude," she said instead. "It's, like, warm."

"Really?" Marshall asked, looking a little closer at it. "How warm?"

He got back to setting up an array of reagents in test tubes. "Could you cut me a slice?" he added. He'd noticed the squishiness, too, and hoped that it would make it easier to get samples for him to work with.

"Gimme a sec," Claudia said, stalling while waiting for an answer on the rock's sliceability in the OOC thread. "And very. This sucker has to be doing some seriously exothermic reacting, here."

Talk to Hermione and Jane - 08/02. bootlessjane August 2 2011, 12:45:58 UTC
These two are the best excuse for science teachers that the island has right now. Where are you when we really need you, REED RICHARDS? HUBERT FARNSWORTH? MS. FRIZZLE??

Well, Hermione and Jane were happy to help and be nerdy and scientific and British at you, anyway, when they ping in accordingly.

Pity there weren't monkey prints or something of the like on the meteor or rock or whatever the devil it was; then Jane would know just what to do. But, as it was, she was just stumped and wondering why she never bothered delving too much into geology.

"Ms. Porter, do you know how long we have to examine the sample?" Scully asked, giving her new Shiny Toy an anxious look. "They're not going to take it away from us within the next day are they? We still have many many tests to run."

If anyone needed Hermione, she'd be half-watching the classroom and half-poring over a geology book. Because of course she went right to the books. She was quickly discovering that looking of pictures of rocks didn't hold much interest for her, but she still personally didn't feel okay handling the rock herself.
