Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. Jack wasn't keen on the rain, but he was holding out for some socialization. It was better than hanging out with the puppy that was usually his brother. Plus, people! Jack liked people. He smiled and nodded in a 'hey, how's it going?' way at anyone who looked at him.

Spotting Jack out and about, Caroline simply had to join him. And complain about the way he was clearly mistreating his poor, abused puppy brother.

"You totally don't even feed Bobby, do you?"

"But only because he shows up at my door barking and looking all pathetic!" And certainly not because he knew she was an easy target. "He's too sweet to ignore."

"What?" Caroline scoffed, wondering if Jack had talked to Jake. "I don't fall for anything when he's human unless you're going to tell me he's really some evil kid hell bent on world destruction, 'cause then, yeah, totally bought his disguise."

"You shouldn't feel bad about it. He does it to everyone and he doesn't even mean to. Everyone wants to look after Bobby. Except Bobby."

"Does that include you, big brother?" she teased. "But I won't feel bad, he needs people. It's a good thing. Other than the demand to be let in and out like, four hundred times an hour. Seriously, I did not expect him to come back after he left the first time." Maybe Caroline just had a way with dogs.

"Looking after Bobby is my sole job description. And he always comes back. Always. Especially when you don't want him to. But you're good to him." Aw look, he was being all sincere. "Thanks."

Caroline grinned. "You're welcome. It's kind of nice that he comes back. I've never had anything to take care of before. Well, not since I killed the class fish in second grade. Bad story. Now I'm way better at remembering the importance of proper food. Though I haven't given Bobby dog food yet."

"He'll eat anything. Even though he's a dog, he seems to know where to find everyone, so I don't think he's going to go hungry if you forget. I don't know how you ended up with puppysitting duties with me, but I'm grateful I don't have to do it 24/7. I woke up with him sitting on my head the other morning. Not okay."

Oh, like he expected her not to laugh at that. "Seriously? That sounds like puppy revenge or something! He hasn't done anything mean to me yet, he just keeps howling and barking like crazy whenever Jake shows up. It's adorable. I think they should start a pack."

"Jake," Jack repeated. "The guy likes dogs?" Someone did not pay attention to his surroundings so much, no. He still thought Caroline was perfectly normal too.

Oh wow, it was kind of awesome to hear him seem so out of the loop. "Kind of? He's a werewolf, so he and Bobby can growl at each other. Dog bonding or whatever."
