Applied Ethics A - Friday, Period 1 [13.07.07]

Harriet had handwavily arranged for the class to meet in the Danger Shop. It looked like a perfectly ordinary classroom, which, yes, might be a waste of its abilities, but it made her happy.

"Good morning. My name is Harriet Jones, Applied Ethics teacher," she said briskly, smiling a welcome once everyone had arrived. A close observer might have noticed her hand twitching a little, as if she'd started to reach for something and stopped herself. "Welcome, and please feel free to call me Harriet."

"Let's start, shall we?" She pressed her hands together and beamed at the class. "This is Applied Ethics, which I hope we can manage to make at least a little bit interesting. And, to be completely fair, I'll admit I have no experience as a teacher, but I have had a great deal of experience trying to make the right choice in difficult situations, as, I'm sure, have many of you." She looked around the room, smiling at each student.

"It's seldom easy. Sometime there is no right choice, or so it seems, sometimes the cost of making what you think is the right choice is too high. Learning to think about what and why and how we make the choices we do, and a bit of practice making them, should hopefully make those hard choices a little bit easier when you encounter them." She shook her head. "But how about if we save that for another day?"

"This class, we'll just get to know each other a little. Introduce yourself, tell us your name, a bit about yourself, why you chose this class, and, if you don't mind, also tell us something that's important to you - a person, an idea, a place, anything you like - and what you'd do to protect it." She nodded at one of the students. "If you wouldn't mind starting us off?"

[ooc: Plz wait for OCD is up. Harriet is quite serious - if your character would not be comfortable talking about something important to them and what they'd do to protect it, they can feel free to say so.]
