Spring BDE Announcement!

Apr 05, 2016 05:19

Welcome, boys and girls, to this season's BDE! We're going to be going into some X-Men lore for this one, so let me introduce the Brood!

The Brood are a parasitic, insectoid alien race from Marvel Cosmic. They travel around, looking for people to infect with their spawn because that's the super disturbing way they reproduce. Basically, they stab you with one of their tentacles, and you're implanted with an embryo, who will in a pretty short amount of time take over your body and mind and then kill you, leaving a Brood in your place. And having most recently tangled with Kitty, they're going to have tracked her back to Fandom, where there are plenty of unsuspecting people who they can take over!

Kitty's sorry, y'all.

THE PLOT

On Saturday, April 23, the Brood will invade, with a giant ship hanging out over Earth. The aliens are really hard to kill, but Fandom is Fandom, and so they'll be able to be fought, and the remaining Brood onplanet will be corralled and portaled out into another dimension where they can't hurt anyone. However, throughout fight day there will be plenty of opportunities for anyone to be infected by the Brood, and those people will have to deal with the idea that they've only got so much time left to live. Fun!

Also, since there will be characters in Fandom who already know what the Brood are all about, there will be free-floating information out there via word of mouth or radio broadcast. People can decide whether they want to help out in the clinic if needed, or help build the machine that will hopefully be able to extract the embryos without killing the host.

And, because there's still a big giant spaceship up there full of killer aliens, the call will go out for anyone on island or off to bring their own ships for a good old-fashioned space battle. Because in more than ten years we've somehow never done that? Time to fix that.

On Sunday, April 24, Fandom will be working against the clock. While people will be working on the machine, and those with spaceships will be able to take out the Brood ship, there are still people on island who are infected. And, depending on how you want to play it, people can begin transforming into Brood that day, and attacking others if you want.

If Saturday's the big fighty day, then Sunday's the day you can go hog wild with the character stuff, because I love you all.

And finally on Monday, April 25, the machine will be working. The infected will report (or be brought against their will, however you wanna do it) to have the embryos removed, and they'll be able to get back to their own lives again.

Leave it to me to want to do a plot backwards.

ON BEING INFECTED

If you choose to have your character infected, you have a lot of free reign. The Brood Queens infect you by stabbing you, which won't kill you in itself, but they implant one of their own in you. You get to decide how fast the transformation happens, whether they're fighting it on day one or transforming on day three before being cured. This also means that on day two, if infected people want to try to band together in some way, that's totally encouraged. You're creative people, I trust ya.

The Brood work together in a hivemind. They have a sort of telepathy between them, so once you start transforming you'd be able to know what others in the hivemind are thinking. It becomes harder to keep a hold of your sense of self when this happens. There's also a physical transformation that begins, which can look like this at the start, or end up like this. You aren't allowed to completely transform. Because then you're part of the Brood and need to be portaled out or killed and you probably don't want that. But you can go right up until then, and maybe try to attack a friend or two, or three, you know what, I don't judge.

Also, the Brood especially target those with powers. Because when they take you over, they also get those powers, and what kind of bloodthirsty monster alien doesn't want that? But they'll really take anyone whose players are mean enough to make it happen for them.

And of course since the call will be going out to alumni, this means that the plot is open to all. If you have a character off island who might be able to help out in some way, bring 'em on in!

Not only are there signups in here, but there's a brainstorming thread. Get your Brood revolt on! Band together to fight! Figure out how to make an IG space battle work!
