The walk had been interesting, if only because it confirmed beyond doubt that they were on Earth. Everywhere she looked, Romana saw plantlife native to that planet, and with the feeling that it was only the early twenty-first century, there wasn't anywhere else in the universe where those species existed. Coupled with a few glimpses of Earth-native birds, she was entirely convinced

Peyton had been looking around as well, but not because she doubted they were on Earth. In fact, she was basically just looking at the scenery and taking it in. She’d pretty much given up on the idea of trying to figure out where they are if only because everyone else is in the same boat as she is - the unknowing kind of boat.
When they came out from the forest she put her hand up to shield her eyes from the entirely too-bright sun. Blinking a couple of times, she watched Romana go towards the guy before she glanced towards Lindsey, Ivanova, and Bill. She followed suit, moving behind Romana but keeping a little bit of distance from the man.
She didn’t ask any questions herself because Romana had them all covered. So, she stood and waited for the man’s answers, hoping that he could shed some light -- any light, really - on what’s happened to them.
Although they'd declared it a holiday Sam couldn't relax. How could he? They were trapped on a bloody lunatic island by bloody mental scientists or Harry bleedin' Potter wizards or somesuch nonsense. Invisible monsters attacked in the night, slaughtering dozens. And of course the body switching. The mere sight of Ripley made him twitch with unease

Throughout the trek, there were a couple of turn-arounds, a couple of impassable bundles of undergrowth where a machete would have come in handy, but by-and-large, the Commander was able to track out a path where she'd be able to bring Marcus through. She did have to stop, tromp down some lesser growth, but, for the most part, she was successful. Of course, the heat was getting a bit much... and the idea of fresh water was getting a little higher on the 'to do' list. She wasn't used to heat-- she'd lived a few years in a climate controlled space station. Then again, she wasn't used to a sky, either

Aaron was adjusting well to the heat, or as well as a two week old baby could. Their first few nights out of the bunker, he'd cried and wailed inconsolably unless he was nursing or Damon maintained a constant empathic flow. The former did very little for anyone's sanity and the latter gave him a slow building headache in the top and back of his skull. Scott's healing ability was a blessing, but even Scott could only do so much when the reason for the discomfort repeated on a daily basis

"Good guess," Ash said to 'Romana.' "You are on an island in the tropics. I'd add that of course it's Earth, but looking at some of you, that's not a given," Ash added, looking at Bill.
"Hey," Bill objected, "I was born in Iowa. I just work in outer space."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Ash said. "Anyhoo," he continued, "I can't be more specific than that. Welcome to a gen-u-ine uncharted desert isle. It's like roach motel--visitors check in, but they don't check out."
"And as for the Doctor--" Ash made a show of half turning to survey the camp. "Don't see him at the moment. So chances are he's off in the jungle making the beast with two backs with Rose. Why? You aren't al old girlfriend or something, are you?"
OOC: Heh heh. Your wish, Rhoni, is my command! Geeze, I post an itro and then everybody posts while I'm asleep!
OOC 2: I'd forgotten that Ivanova hated telepaths--she'll have such fun here on the island....
Sam's mood was worsening by the minute. Not only had a group of strangers found their woefully unsecure camp, but they were attracting a crowd complete with newborn.
Sam almost wished he'd taken point on the initial introductions. Letting Ash do the talking, while possibly dangerous, allowed Sam to hang back and observe.
The green bloke objected to Ash's insinuation that not everyone was from Earth. "Hey, I was born in Iowa. I just work in outer space."
Sam stifled a groan. Then he winced at Ash's crude remarks about the Doctor and Rose. Before the Yank could say anything else wildly inappropriate Sam stepped forward, making sure he was between the strangers and Damon and Aaron. "Right, then. Who are you lot and how'd you get here?"
OOC: For the newcomers, Sam has a Manchester accent. nohatmatt, does Romana have a London accent?
Sam gave the Commander a nod of thanks at her "foraging" remark. It seemed their initial tête-à-tête was mutually put behind them.
Inclining her head at her guide for the moment, the Commander gestured forward, "Lead on." Neither in front, nor behind, she fell in beside the other man.
As they walked side by side to the thatched shack that served as the infirmary Ivanova asked, "You are playing with a deck of cards with the aces removed?"
Sam chuckled. "That's one way to put it, yes." He picked up on her wry sense of humor as she continued.
"He's one of those eternal optimists. Drove me nuts."
"I know what you mean," Sam grinned. He appreciated her loyalty to her friend. "I'll go with you, if you like. Not much to do here now that the shelters are built and food stores replenished."
They strode into the infirmary. "Hallo?" Sam called.
The Commander offered the Detective Inspector... or was that Inspector Detective? Regardless, she gave him a smile and a nod in prelude to a response to his offer. "Sure. If we're not keeping you from--" The music of the next track sounded, and she gestured with her head towards the 'party'. "--some picnic on the beach. You guys look like you're having a day off. I'll warn you now... I'm deadly in horseshoes
