I asked because lately I've occasionally seen "maths" in US-based sources (not fanfic). I thought perhaps I'd missed some change in usage.

I suspect ex-pats/American as a Second Language speakers!

(I've honestly never seen/heard "maths" from an American, but I can say the state of copyediting and proofreading in American print and online publications is deplorable these days.)
