FTEC -- Sunday, April 20 -- Evening.

Apr 20, 2008 17:31

With a slight sigh, Adah settled behind the front desk of the clinic and looked at the studying materials she had brought with her. The plan was to spend the evening glancing over her material for her maths exam tomorrow, but she wondered if she'd be able to focus on it. She was thinking about that summer internship at Emory, about how she still ( Read more... )

Mary hadn't been well over the past few days, and by Sunday evening, she was ready to admit that she was sick enough for the clinic. So she made her way there, bundled up in multiple layers of clothing because she still had the chills.

Adah glanced up from a few practice tax forms with a little bit of surprise; it had been so dead (ironic pun intended completely) the last few weekends that someone coming in was a little surprising. A good surprise, though, saving her from too much boredom, and, by the looks of it, this woman was well enough to bring herself into the clinic, so it wouldn't be anything as draining as, you know, demon attacks.

Hopefully.

She tilted her head, noting the thick bundling, despite the warming weather. "May I help you, ma'am?" she asked, already getting an information form and a pen prepared.

"I was hoping you could give me something for my throat. It really hurts to swallow," said Mary. "I've been feeling really tired lately, so I'm guessing that's connected to it also." She shivered and pulled her jacket around herself.

"If you'd like to go ahead and have a seat on the exam table, Miss Connell," Adah said, after she'd limped in behind the patient with one of the nurses who assisted her a little in getting on her latex gloves, "we can get a closer look at that throat."

Mary sat down on the table, cringing involuntarily as she tried to swallow despite how much it hurt to do so.

Adah, helped into a gauze face mask to protect herself from whatever Mary had and armed with a tongue depressor after cleverly hooking a light behind her ear to help her see better since she couldn't exactly hold both at once, leaned in a little. "Open, please, and go 'aaaaaa.'"

She never really knew why most doctors even bothered with the aaaaaaa thing, unless they did it for the same reason she did: because it made people look and sound funny.
