"Okay, that's not a problem," said Janet, raising an eyebrow at the bruises around Lana's throat. She stood and gestured back at the clinic. "I think we should go into the exam room before we talk any more, don't you?"
Lana shifted her weight from foot to foot uneasily, tugging up the turtleneck that kept slipping down. "I, um... need..." she swallowed hard, nausea threatening to overwhelm her again. "I need to be checked for pregnancy and any STDs."
Janet nodded, her slightly widened eyes the only possible sign of shock. "We can do that, and keep it confidential. Do you need referrals to a trauma counselor?"
She really, really hoped that Lana didn't need a referral.
"I..." Lana swallowed hard again. "I don't remember anything, so I don't think it would do any good. I just want to make sure... I don't know who I might have had sex with or whether they used protection, and..." She shook her head, not wanting to go on.
