Oct 07, 2006 17:07

After spending some time up at the school with Phale and the kids in detention, Wilson had headed home for a nap. Rolling out of bed an hour before his shift, he showered and ate a light lunch to hold him over till Phale brought dinner down later in the evening, then packed up his briefcase and headed down to the clinic ( Read more... )

Sometime during the night a large black dog came bounding into the clinic.

Wilson had just gotten finished giving Phale a Look for bringing up how he'd ended up in the pond, when Angel outflanked him on the ties.

Waggling a finger at the vampire, Wilson stuck up for his ties. "I had some very nice silk ties, they were French."

Harumph.

"And I got picked up by the angelic taxi service and dropped in the duck pond." Pause. "Ruined a perfectly good tie, too."

"Not if it was one of the ties you bought yourself," Aziraphale shot back, blithely unaffected by the Look.

Angel snickered. Then something Phale said caught up with him. "You said you were teaching prophecy?

Harumph!

Wilson gave them both a sniffy look, belied by the warm twinkle in his dark eyes and he turned to pour out cups of tea for all three of them, listening curiously to Angel's question.

Aziraphale wasn't surprised that Angel was curious.

"Yes, Mondays we study theory and history, and Fridays there's a lab on divination techniques. I'm actually surprised by the number of students here who exhibit an actual talent."

"Anyone I know?" Angel asked, easily distracted but not totally forgetting his original line of questioning.

Passing out the tea, Wilson sat back and listened, enjoying the quiet conversation.

"I'm...not certain I ought to give out that information," Aziraphale admitted. "Some of them, I imagine it's common knowledge. Well, for instance, I think most people here know that Phoebe has the Sight. But as for the others..."

He frowned worriedly and glanced over at Wilson, hoping for a little guidance on the issue.

"It's okay," Angel assured him. "I was just curious. Just dealing with a lot of destinies lately. Kinda caught my attention."

Wilson gave Angel a quick smile in thanks for his understanding. At first he had thought the vampire was asking about the class roster but...yeah, probably best not to talk about details of students.

"Destinies seem to breed here in Fandom." Wilson said with a rueful smile.

"But, you're talking about LA, Angel?"

Aziraphale smiled as well, and nodded gratefully at Angel's response. He was just as curious as Wilson to find out what sort of 'destinies' Angel was talking about, though, and listened carefully.

Angel shrugged. "Dunno if you'd call it LA specific. Cal thinks she's got a destiny. I'm trying to give her options. Only this involves, you know, talking."

Yes, Angel did skip right past any of his own destinies or concerns to be had therein. He was Angel. He did that.

Wilson really wasn't fooled. Not with what he knew of Angel but since he didn't think the upfront 'So, what's your horrible, sacrificial, destiny of doom' would be a good question for the moment.

Instead, he pursed his lips thoughtfully and suggested.

"IMs?"

Hey, technically, it wasn't talking.

If Aziraphale had any clue what IMs were, he might have suggested that face-to-face talking was better, but that instant messaging was at least communication. Unfortunately, he no idea what Wilson was talking about.

"Eye-ems, love?" he murmured, looking confused. Then he added, to Angel, "That's one of the things we'll be talking about in class, and something I think quite a few of the students are struggling with. The idea of knowing something is supposed to happen, and whether or not there's anything you can do to change it."

"I know there's some things we can't," Angel said. "But I feel like she's just given up. It's not fate telling her, it's her."
