Title: Thankful
Author: willowaus
Fandom: X-Men comic, Age of Apocalypse
Pairings/Characters: Rogue/Magneto
Rating: PG
Tarot: Ten of Cups

Note: This takes place during the very end of X-Men Omega, the last issue of the Age of Apocalypse series and uh, doesn't take into account the 10th anniversary, which I love but wouldn't go with the story. *looks shifty*

Magneto looks out across the rubble, taking in the damage that was caused, smiling grimly at their victory. Apocalypse is dead. Bishop is gone, traveling back in time to make it so none of this would ever happen. Apocalypse would never rise into power, Wanda would not be killed at the hands of the Horsemen, and humans would not become slaves. His gaze travels to Rogue, holding their son protectively in her arms as she makes her way towards him.

And he will not be born. He shuts his eyes briefly in pain, forcing himself to not show any of it as he looks back at them. We will not be… He can’t finish the thought, unable to believe they would not be together, no matter what path his life took. He wraps his arms around them, pulling the two of them close as the bombs fall.

Images bombard him and he tightens his grip. He watches Rogue twirl little Charles around in the air, their laughter filling him with joy and pride. His lips press against Rogue’s, relishing in her soft moan as his hands travel across her bare skin. He sees Pietro and Wanda playing on the grass, smiling as a flock of gulls fly overhead before waving excitedly at him. Finally, he looks down at Rogue who is lying on the bed, giving him a tired smile as she looks down at their child, asleep on the covers beside her. “I love you.”

Tears fall down his face as the world ends in a flash of light; thankful for what time he’s had with his family.
