What is this auction for?
This is an auction to raise money for Organization for Transformative Works, which runs our beloved
Archive of our Own fanfiction archive. As an entirely non-profit venture, the OTW is funded by donations, and needs help to stay afloat.
Do I have to identify as a fandom artist to participate?
Absolutely not. Anyone may offer multimedia works!
How does this work?
It's very simple! People offer works as comments in the appropriate Offers posts, from April 11-April 24. Then, when bidding opens on April 25th, you may bid on any of the offers, as many times as you want. Bidding closes May 2nd, 9PM EST!
After bidding closes, each winning bidder will be contacted by a mod. They will donate and send proof of donation to the offerer. After that, it is up to the offerer and the bidder to facilitate creating and delivering the fanwork.
Why is this auction multimedia-only?
It was inspired by a fic-only AO3 auction happening right now! Please go bid on authors at the
AO3 Fundraiser Auction if you are thus inclined!
What if I don't know which multimedia category to post my offer in?
The lines may blur between mediums (like graphics and art) but use your best judgement! DO NOT post one offer in two Offers posts.
How/Where do I donate?
Please see our donation post My donation is under $10, so I can't donate directly on the OTW page!
Please follow the instructions
here for how to donate if your donation is under $10!
Why is the currency used US Dollars?
To avoid confusion during bidding, we need to use only one currency. There is no reason to use USD specifically other than it being more or less the norm in charity auctions.
Can I donate without participating?
Always. (endquote Snape) You may support OTW & AO3 at any time, with or without fandom auctions. The donation links on this comm all link directly to the
OTW support/donation page which is open year-round!
Is this legal and authorised by OTW?
It is legal and acceptable! I sent in an email asking for permission, and am quoting the relevant section of the reply:
You're correct that the AO3 and its parent organization, the Organization for Transformative Works, can't officially endorse third-party fundraisers. However, it's fine if individuals want to host such events. We'd be grateful if you did!
