In general, there's so little fandom it's almost impossible to tell. My best friend who watched it adores Alex. The show was initially going to be centered around him until it was decided the MC needed to be someone closer to the target age group.
Most of the fandom I've seen is centered around Dio or Dio/Luciola. Both which I adore.
I think Dio makes a little bit more sense by the end of the show. I couldn't really discuss him without that context, so I'll hold my tongue until then.
EDIT: Also those look like the best damn cupcakes.
Alex seemed mega-fandom-bait to me, I think because he comes across as actually being the character that fans seem to wish a lot of popular characters were. Worked on me, anyway :D
That's interesting about how Claus and Lavie ended up as protagonists. I love both of them a lot, tbh, and I love their relationship; I think they're quite a believable pair. I wonder, though, if I'd have the tolerance for them that I do if I were watching them in a Western show; Hazel's said to me a lot of times that she thinks the language barrier really helps stop film/animation children and teenagers grating on you, heh.
I look forward to seeing more of Dio's story! I find him engaging atm, I just don't get him, I don't think.
The cupcakes ran out very quickly :D I made a new set, of maple syrup and walnut ones, but I cocked up the icing a bit :/ They still taste good, but they look like a small child made them, sob.
I haven't explored Last Exile fandom, so I don't know about fandom. But I, for one, loved Alex Rowe~ :D (I remember liking Dio too.)
Hmmmm, I never actually watched the Death Note anime. I started the series from the manga back in 2004 (manga was where my love for Death Note found root and grew), got excited and then disappointed by (how they butchered the story in) the live action movies, then when the anime came along, I guess, though I did hear that it was mostly true to the manga except for a few parts, I thought I didn't need to see it. Sounds like it's a different visual experience watching the anime though... heh. Maybe, someday.
The cupcakes disappeared very quickly :D I really like nut-butter-based cakes, though; these ones were made with cashew butter, and Hazel made some a while back with peanut butter that were NOM.
Tbh, the whole idea of the Silvana, including Alex, is pretty much an insta-draw for me...and I don't even know why, because I'm such a dyed-in-the-wool pacifist in my outlook on life, but that kind of mysterious, forbidding, ruthless military outfit really pushes my fictional buttons. Bizarre.
I've never read the DN manga - I find manga in general really difficult to read, though; because my brain is so over-trained in words and so undertrained in images, I find myself absorbing the dialogue really quickly and not paying enough attention to the art. Clare: Not Good With Comics :(
I do love Death Note - it's one of those (many, many) things, though, that I think I get more out of than was ever put in. But my fanwanking and overanalysing makes me just as happy either way, so.
Last Exile comes recommended from me, or as much of it as I've seen so far does - although I'm feeling a bit lost with it in the episodes I'm at right now; it's hit a stride where I feel like I'm not getting quite as much exposition and development as I'd like, idk.
