The plain white towel could be interpreted as a snowfield, and therefore works out just fine.

(Have you considered tea- or soy-dyeing something like a quail egg--if those are available in your neck of the woods--to achieve Water Tribe skin tones? Another approach might be to use rice cooked in a brown stock, such as the broth from reconstituted shiitake mushrooms.)
