"Yes," the man replies, and he sounds as annoyed as Midnighter might have, in his place. "We've gone over that already."
"No," Midnighter cuts in, letting his senses extend. The man is not human. The man has two heartbeats. The man is entirely inhuman; an alien. Doctors are always human. "I know the Doctor, and you're not him. Who are you?"
"I'm the Doctor," the alien retorts, frowning. He sounds as if he's offended that anybody might think differently. "You might've met another me!" he suggests with a smile, a solution to the problem Midnighter is presenting him. "Anyway, the real question is, what are youHe's gotten close to Midnighter, and it's instinct, really, or the opposite of instinct, it's a computer-triggered response.
