STOP MAKING ME WANT TO CRY AT WORK, WOMAN! I still have a hope that somehow Charlie just ended up lost in France and will turn up again. Because it's Charlie. And I can't allow him to die in my head.

Hey, maybe Lucifer was wrong thinking he was dead. Maybe Charlie was just in a coma or whatever, and the Germans got him, and kept him as a POW. Maybe he's lost his memory and that's why he's not come back to Lucifer yet.

Maybe one day Lucifer will visit France and find an amnesic Charlie there. Maybe that's the fic I really should be writing.

Um, I'm going to bug you IN PERSON all weekend until you write that fic. Really. Really really. Because I love the way you write Luce and Charlie, and I just can't write them like that at all and you can and it amazes me and I want a happy ending, Fan'. I'm a sap.

Well I can't write it before or during this weekend, so. And my mind is already assaulted by Adam in Pirates times plot bunnies! Ha. Besides, you finish the western sequel and then you can bug me. :p

The thing is, when you write about Charlie you can't go wrong. Gatiss made me sob like a child with just the handful of paragraphs, not because of his words, but because it's Charlie. This fic is nothing special, and it's not perfect, or really smart. Charlie is all those things.

...or maybe I'm transferring and expecting everybody to get just as choked up about him as I do, but really, Charlie.

I really like how you described the way Lucifer would remember each of his men. It really built the suspense for how he would remember Charlie. And this: sometimes they kissed, long and slow, kisses Lucifer had vowed to himself not to read anything into... Oh, Luce! So foolish you are. *shakes head* But at least he'll have those memories. Poor Charlie! *whimpers again*

The way he remembers each of them is actually leeched right out of the novel, for the record. Let's all bow to Gatiss together. I built the whole fic around the way Gatiss had Lucifer remember that night - he had something to say about all of them, how he remembered them, but then all he could say about Charlie was that he was always good for a gasper. I think that broke me more than anything when I read it.

Oh god, I just finished it this morning and had the EXACT same reaction as Lizzie, CLEARLY he is not dead he's off somewhere being absolutely ravishing. The bastard.

This is a wonderful fic, though, and a great account of what might, or could, have happened. Beautifully painful.
