Hi I love your icons. I was wondering what program you use and how you manage to get such clean selections? I submit icons to the Ziva Cote Stills and NCIS Still, and I always love yours best!
I use Photoshop 8. Basically I always proceed the same: 1. I create a new transparent layer. 2. Then I pick a color from the background (or another) and paint over the background (on the new layer, so if something goes wrong I can delete this layer and create a new one). For the most part of the background I use a brush like this one. For smaller details like for example Cote's hair above her shoulder in this icon I use smaller brushes and also brushes like that one, otherwise the transition from her to the background would be too abrupt. Sometimes, when I'm having to much trouble with small details or the hair I just choose the color of the hair and use this one as the backgroundcolor, like in this Abby icon or in this Ziva icon. If I think the transition from the person to the background is still too abrupt I copy the layer and smudge the edges to the person. Often I reduce the opacity of this layer. In this icon I additionally pasted a lightblob in the middle and set it to screen. Then I

THANKS!! :) So that's pretty much what I use. I use the magnetic selection to try and get my initial cut, but I always seem to have problems getting the rest of the cut clean...and yeah Ziva and Abby's hair is usually what drives me nuts! I'll try the techniques you suggested and see if I can get a clearer/cleaner crop. Thanks for the background techniques too.!
I need to be honest. I'm not a Peter/Olivia shipper, but I do ship Peter and Peter/Walter. that's totally okay for me :) Personally I love the relationship between Peter and Walter as well, but I don't ship them.
Oh. And I'm in love with Joshua Jackson. Who's not? ;)

I'd like to invite you to participate in Round 2 of sg1_lims, a general SG-1 LIMS competition. Sign-ups are already open and the images for the first five challenges have been posted.
