I need the phrase "the boy's a time bomb" translated into German.

I´d use "Der Junge ist eine tickende Zeitbombe."

"tickende" is actually the translation of "ticking" which is not in your requested phrase - feel free to leave it out if you don´t like it - but to me it just sounds more natural then "Der Junge ist eine Zeitbombe"; "tickende" adds a sense of urgency and potential danger.
