Festiviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiids
Hello, internet! Did you know that signups are now open for Festivids? Because THEY ARE! If you were following along at all last year you'll know why you should sign up immediately. Worried about deadlines? You'll have three months this year and the minimum length is only a minute long! So why do it?
1. That obscure/tiny fandom you love but there are no/very few vids for? Not only can you finally get a vid for it (made just for YOU), but the pimping opportunities are endless! Since it is an exciting fest that involves a whole community, your tiny fandom gets all kinds of exposure to people who may never have heard of it, or your older fandom gets a nostalgic boost of 'OMG, I remember that!' Vids are amazing pimping tools.
1b. The motivation/inspiration to finally make a vid for that tiny fandom you love and are matched up on. Y'all I had kind of wanted to make a China Beach vid for years but it wasn't until I matched up on it for Festivids last year that I had the kick to go actually get my hands on the source and rewatch it and make those vids. They ended up being as much a gift for me as they were for my recipient. YOU WIN TWICE!
2. Vidders, vidders, everywhere. I met a ton of new friends last year through the various discussions and Dear Festividders letters and vidchat and just everyone talking about nominations and offers and about their festivids in progress with all the verbal gymnastics required to keep the actual fandom secret at the same time (which is fun all on its own).
3. Since the minimum vid length is only a minute, and the identity of the vidders is not revealed right away this is a great opportunity to jump in there if you've been thinking about giving vidding a try but never have. You've got a built in resource community to help you along with tech problems and volunteer betas, and a built in audience to watch your vid. Your vid release is not competing with better known vidders names, since no one knows who did what when they first go up, so it is also a great way to start out without that pressure either.
4. IT IS FUN, OKAY! SO MUCH FUN! DID I MENTION HOW MUCH FUN IT IS?
Now, some of you right now are thinking...no, even with the extended deadline this year and the one minute minimum I can't commit to completing a vid, especially if it is your first. That is okay! Festivids, 'cause it is awesome like that, has a way for you to participate. Any person can make treat vids without signing up, so join the lj or dreamwidth community and watch for those Dear Festividder letters. Pick and choose from the prompts and give it a whirl! If you don't manage one, fine...but if you do, your treat vid will still go up with golive and you will get to participate and have made someone super happy with a bonus vid. EVERYONE WINS AGAIN.
And then there are those of you who are really, really not vidders. THERE IS A PLACE FOR YOU TOO. Vidwatchers, we need you. To cheerlead, to offer beta, to pimp! This is also a fantastic opportunity if you don't really get vids or vidwatching to dip a toe in the spectator side. The wide variety of fandoms, tone, styles, music etc. means there is something for everyone. Like a really awesome buffet to sample from. And the more people talking about and commenting on the vids come golive the more exciting and fun it is for everyone. Break out those pom poms! The rewards are endless.
