I'm really struggling with the shooting in Connecticut. Maybe it's because it's so close to us having our own little person out in this crazy world, maybe it's because the victims were just SO young and innocent and the crime so senseless...maybe I'm just tired of the fact that this has basically become a roughly biannual thing in this country for ( Read more... )

TBH this shooting didnt affect me until this morning when I was listening to some radio people talk about it - then it hit me. SO senseless.

I guess for me, while I completely agree with your assessment of the gun laws I also look at the mental health side of things. While I dont agree with the I am Adam Lanza's mother article, only because it gives the suggestion that all mental health patients can be dangerous, I definitely agree that something needs to be done about mental health in the united states. When the only option for these people is prison because there is no care for them otherwise than there is a problem. There are many violent people out there, and when a violent person also has a mental illness it makes them even more unstable. I guess I just want to see something done about that AND the gun laws.

I'm having a hard time with it all. My oldest child is 6, he is in the first grade. That could have been him or his friends. My heart is breaking for those parents. Knowing the age, how spirit filled they are, how anxious they are to learn and live. I'm saddened by their loss, the pain their parents, siblings and families are feeling. I wish they didn't have to suffer and that those babies could be back at home with them.

I couldn't agree more with you. The whole situation has been haunting the back of my mind since it happened. Most of the children who were killed were my daughter Summer's age. I can't even wrap my mind around how anyone could possibly harm another person so maliciously, let alone young children. School and public shootings have become so much more prevalent, and I have been dreading something like this would happen for years now. It was only a matter of time before some nutcase would go shoot up a school, because like you said, guns are just so accessible to anyone these days ( ... )

On the same note, I also feel that the issue of bullying should be taken more seriously, because most of the shooters in previous shootings had been bullied.
