I am completely floored at how many people in the baby_names community are telling me to spell Madelyn like Madeline/Madeleine. Um, like almost every single person. Why do I seem to be the only person in the whole entire world who thinks that those are completely different names?? I, too, am generally against the influx of "lyn" names, and kre8ive spellings ( Read more... )

They ARE different names. The "line" ending should be said just as it looks, and vice versa. Just like the name Adeline/Adelynn.

Oh, and is this the first time that you've announced her name? I thought you were keeping it a secret! But YAY! I'm so excited to put a name to your bump that is soon to be an adorable little face!

I've heard Madeline pronounced both ways. But regardless, who cares what baby_names says. lol If you like Madelyn, go with Madelyn! It's an adorable name. :)

And I just looked at your b_n post.... I much prefer Madelyn over Madilyn. ;)

thank you :) it all started because J has suddenly decided that he reallyyyyy wants to spell it "Madilyn", and no matter how hard i try, i just cannot come around to liking that. so i posted to baby_names, and instead of them siding with one spelling or the other, i got "ha ha, you're both wrong" :P

Eeee, sorry but I was waiting to find out your baby name choice and was bummed you were going to hold out till she was here... I am glad you posted it here at least.

I LOOOOVE the name. It's such a sweet feminine name that she can change around a bit if she wants to.

I've heard Madeline/Madeleine pronounced both ways.

I do think you might be in denial about the spelling here lol but I still think Madilyn/Madelyn is a pretty spelling regardless! I think I like Madilyn the most, it looks similar to how Marilyn is spelled so that could be why it looks the most 'correct' of the options.

However, Madelyn doesn't get a red squiggly line under it when I type it so my dictionary says it's legit lol.
