Possible FAM iPhone app

Aug 24, 2008 09:28

My husband and I are thinking about designing an iPhone app for keeping track of FAM information.  He's the programmer, and it's my job to tell him what features would be a good idea.

If you were using a portable device for tracking FAM,  what features would you like to see?

Er. My husband's a computer programmer, not a computer. :-)

Ability to mark symptoms such as PMS.

The thing I hate about FF is that its ovulation detector is shite, and so many people rely on it. I'd suggest that if you can't do a really good ovulation detector, don't put one in at all, let the user decide their ovulation date for herself.

The ability to mark PMS symptoms is definitely doable. I was thinking we could have little icons show on the chart for specific . I know that's sort of goofy and cutesy, but at least you would be familiar with the icons you use a lot and would know at a glance which days you were experiencing which symptoms.

would you be able to link it to a website?
(but then you'd have to design a website for it to work with. but it can just be a really simple website, really.

i would definitely support this app!
(but i use the touch. i guess you wouldn't include any iphone-only features, right?)

I've downloaded almost every fertilty program for iphone so far and they all fall way short of the mark. Take a look at fertilityfrend.com; the data entry pages there contain pretty much everything I want to enter. The programs for iphone I've looked at so far are totally lacking in things like: cervical mucous type, cervical position, PMS/period symptoms, etc. I'd like to be able to check of things like when I had intercourse, as well as whether it was protected or unprotected. Also, the ability to add our own unique data boxes would be fantastic. The ability to overlay graphs to see trends would be great, too. I really hope you guys follow through with this, as I've been waiting for the right iphone app since they day they opened the platform to 3rd-party applications Thanks!

After reading the other comments I have one other thing to add. I would be just as happy to have all of the interpretation of my data left to me. Since I *know* how to use FAM (I use it for birth control), I'm more than happy to figure out what it all means. I don't need a program to tell me when I'm fertile or not. I'm happy if it's just like good old paper charting...I input information and use it myself. As long as the program had easy ways to enter all of the information I want to chart (see above), it would be perfect! It may not have the same appeal to people who don't understand FAM/NFP, but heck, those people shouldn't be using it for birth control anyhow, and there are plenty of other "dumber" programs for people who want their phone to predict their fertility.

any updates on this app? bfhelp December 10 2008, 03:17:56 UTC
I have been searching for an app for iPhone for NFP charting. Any updates on this being a reality??? I would LOVE to have this!
I agree with the previous posters stating that just having the ability to input info and determine the ovulation etc on my own would b great.
Thanks!!
