If the sex doesn't move the story, then skip it. I'll about sex revealing character and if it doesn't do that, it's just porn without plot.

But, hey, if it's a Sawyer/Kate fic, then by all means, write it! :)

'Kay, so this is my view: a fic (not a movie, since that's obviously very different) is NC-17 when the sex is described in very specific details. I think that many authors get use the R rating when the details are a) non-existant, or b) pertaining more to emotions/sensations than what's happening. For instance, what Character A feels when Character B gives them head would deserve an R rating, but any physical details involving specific body parts would be NC-17.

Terminology can also trigger a high rating. The more ambiguous the language in regards to sex, the lower the rating. But honestly I think that an author's warning is more informative than a rating. If you include one with the story I don't think you'll have an problems.

See, what you said is totally my thinking as well. As long as I'm not doing the graphic play by play of what piece of anatomy is penetrating the other and copious description of the taste of someone's cum or how, precisely, one is thrusting, it's an R-rating. But I will definitely include a warning. Because, well, the story is basically all about sex.

Oh, the story, the story, the story. It's another Josh/Donna because I just can't seem to stop writing the two of them. And I got to thinking while doing the "five things" meme, and was like, hmmm, "five times Josh and Donna never fucked." Needless to say, from there it has exploded into a ginormous story compared to the original drabble I had in mind. Needless to say, there's a lot of sex, lol. I'm pumped about the fic though and really, really want it done soon, lol. But thanks for the input; it helped greatly. :)
