murakamifest '06 has come to a vague halt. it was going swimmingly until the wind-up bird chronicle which there is nothing particularly wrong with but i have not actually read any of it in two days. i am sort of interested in the plot, but not quite enough to pick it up and start reading. perhaps i am distracted by thoughts of norwegian wood and ( Read more... )

re: murakami -- after listening to everyone talk about him as god's new gift to literature, i was really excited to finally read one of his novels. he writes short stories for The New Yorker a lot, all of which i'd thought were rather clever. so i bought Dance Dance Dance. and read it. and didn't like it. which was really disappointing. i also bought Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. which i haven't read yet, but i'm holding out hope.

re: most frequently used words -- water, fuck, christ, book. my list is a helpful one, i'm sure.

i definitely enjoyed sputnik sweetheart and i really loved kafka on the shore (which was the first one i bought, on a whim) except for the nonstop sex which i found gratuitous after a while, but i tend to think that anytime anyone puts sex in anything so it's probably more to do with me than with literature BUT ANYWAY. the wind-up bird chronicle is alright. i don't think i'm far enough along to form an opinion, or maybe i shouldn't read all of his books in one go or they'll have no choice but to become boring. i'm actually pretty interested in the plot, but i somehow can't bring myself to pick up the book and read. huh ( ... )
