004 - Writer's Block: Take Your Chances

That's hard to answer without being hypocritical. People -- and reploids -- are essentially good, and one mistake shouldn't condemn them. Having said that, though... there are some people that I just don't have the strength of heart to forgive. They've already had their shot at redemption, though, and neither of them changed at all. As jaded as it ( Read more... )

Jaded? Bah! That's being realistic, lad! You said yourself that they've already passed up their chance to change. In my experience, someone putting a second chance to good use is the exception rather than the rule. Waiting for someone to redeem themselves is a waste of time, if you ask me!

Maybe you're right. I'd just hate to think that I might pass over somebody who genuinely wants to change.

It's sort of complicated when Mavericks are involved, though. What if there's a possibility that the person in question isn't acting of their own free will? Do their actions still condemn them, or is it better to hope that their morality is still intact somewhere in there?

Ah, well that's a horse of a different color, isn't it? You can't very well help doing something if you're not entirely aware you're doing it in the first place!

It's when they do know what they're doing and they have no remorse about it, that's when you should just forget them. Not worth it, I say!

That's the thing. How do we tell whether a Maverick is killing humans because a virus is forcing them to, or if it's because it's a conscious, willful desire?

...You seem to have a strong grasp of your own moral code, Mr. Scrooge. I wish I could have half your confidence.

Hmm.

I'm sure that if we were really needed, they wouldn't stop at just calling our frequency. They'd find another way to reach us.

I'm sure you're right. If the headmaster could bring us here, then I'm sure he could take us back if it was necessary. Things should be quiet while the dust from the Doppler Uprising settles, anyway, but... I don't know. It's hard not to wonder "what if."

It is. But if this is going to help us get stronger so we'll be able to end things quickly in the future, it's just really intensive training. Besides, a lot of the newer recruits really proved their worth against Doppler's army. I'm sure they can hold down the fort.

...Yeah. I guess it is pretty egotistical to think that we're the only ones who can save people. I just... I don't like the idea of anyone getting hurt when I could have been there. I didn't join the hunters so other people could fight my battles, you know?
