“Cold today.”

Stella looked up from buckling her shoes into the stoic face of Agent David Sinclair. She offered him a sad smile and nodded. “Fitting, isn’t it?”

He returned the smile and extended his hand to help her up from the seat. “Yeah, I guess it is.”

Danny watched Lindsay get ready with a frown on his face. It had been a hard week for all of them but it had hit her harder than most and he suspected a lot harder than she had been prepared for.

“Come here, Montana,” he said standing.

She smiled weakly and went to him, lifting her hair so he could fasten the silver locket she had been trying to fasten for the past few minutes. Once he had done it, he wrapped his arm around her and she leaned back, grateful for the support. “I can’t beileve he’s gone. I never…he must have thought…I didn’t hate him.”

He pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “He knew.”

Mac sat with Allan in the living room, his hands folded in his lap as they waited. He recognized the look on the older man’s face, the look of a good man whose lost more than anyone person should.

“Hows Megan?” he asked finally breaking the silence.

“She’s been taking care of Charlie,” replied Allan with a humorless laugh “She’s been with Don for so long, I’m not sure she’s quite ready to accept things the way they are.”

Mac nodded. “Taking care of his brother is her way of keeping that tie.” He had gotten pretty close to the young agent and knew that there was nothing more important to him than his family.

Hawkes sat down beside Amita on the grass the yard of the Eppes house. “No luck?” he asked softly.

She shook her head and looked over at him.

“It’s like…he’s there but he’s so lost,” she said tearfully “Megan is in there with him but I’m so scared, Sheldon. He’s…I…I can’t lose him but I’m so scared I already have.”

David spoke first at the memorial service. The toll the loss of a close friend had taken on the proud agent was obvious.

“When I first met Colby I didn’t like him…”

Danny thought of Aiden as he listened to David talk. He had been in David’s position at her memorial service, except he had not been nearly as calm as he was being. He squeezed Lindsay’s hand gently.

“Colby wasn’t always easy to get along with but he was always a good friend and a good man.”

Mac thought of Claire as he listened to Megan talk about Don. He closed his eyes as he remembered the last day they had together and felt guilty that the last day of Agent Don Eppes’s life had been spent helping him track down a murderer. The same murderer that had claimed his life and the life of one of his agents.

“Don was a good friend, a good husband, a good brother and son but above all that, he was a good man.”
