And look at that, time is passing ridiculously quickly.

A few thoughts on the Doctor Who finale (and some of this season, since I've been unable to write up my usual episode reviews this time around, sigh London sigh. On the plus side, I can catch up with new episodes on iPlayer, why doesn't this exist in France sigh sigh double sigh).

spoilers. )

spoilers, doctor who, so much tl;dr i'm sorry, reviewing and its lack of artistry

I (ridiculously, predictably) read spoilers before seeing the episode (just that John Hurt is a regeneration), and then when it came time to see the episode, i left feeling really underwhelmed and flat. That is what people were freaking out about? I agree, I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more had it been a two-parter. I think this story in particular deserves a two-parter. It's intricate and has the room to be incredibly detailed.

I'm just... really disappointed, this season. There hasn't been one episode that has stood out for me. Usually there's at least one. I adore Eleven, I like JLC, but in all honesty, Vastra, Jenny and Strax were the most interesting part of the season to me. I'm happy I'm not the only one to feel this season has been lacking, a bit, at least!

(Unrelated! How have you been doing? It's been a while!)

So did I! But then, what can I say - I adore spoilers, can't get enough of 'em. It might have been interesting to go into that ending scene completely unprepared, though; as it is, I wasn't shocked or overwhelmed by the revelation, just interested into where it's going. Hope springs eternal, etc.

It really is very intricate, and, like - there is so much material. He'd set up many different threads that could've come together in a way that would have blown away the audience, and then he ... didn't. It's frustrating, because he very clearly thinks he's being very clever, and it's true that the potential is there, it exists, it could go somewhere spectacular! But he's just not that much of a good writer. (See, though, I rather liked this season. Hide was brilliant; The Crimson Horror had Jenny/Vastra and Strax, which automatically makes me love it; Journey at the Centre of the TARDIS ... was a bit wonky, yeah, but it had good bits. Overall there was stuff lacking, but I still thought that this season was better than S6. Oh well ( ... )

Hahaha, yay for being a spoiler fiend!

I... can't remember much of S6. I think that might be a part of the problem, actually. I'm not remembering anything from the majority of these episodes, which makes me kind of sad. (I did like Hide! That one actually, properly creeped me out. At least I think it was Hide... with the not-ghost?) Craig episodes will always be my favourite episodes, and for this time round, Jenny/Vastra + Strax. Honestly, if there was a Jenny/Vastra + Strax spin-off, I'd watch it. Repeatedly.

I'm curious/interested in John Hurt Doctor, though. I do like John Hurt, and I want to know the story behind that, which is enough to keep me watching. Also Ten!

And no worries! That sounds like a major, stressful workload, dear God. D: Best of luck, I'm sure you'll do great! Everything is pretty good here. I finished classes in April so I'm on summer holidays, being spectacularly lazy at the moment. So whenever you're up for a chat, I'll be around! <3

S6 was ... pretty bad. It had a solid start, and the Doctor's Wife was wonderful, and I for one have a soft spot for Night Terrors, but the overall story arc was a mess, and was mostly just Moffat setting up a grand death for the Doctor and then handwaving it all to hell. Also River's birth. It was a mess.

I love John Hurt, yeah, so I'm looking forward to knowing what they do with him - and Ten+Rose! Even though I wish they could have Nine (and possibly Martha and Donna?) as well, tbh.

Yeaaah, it's been a bit full. I'll be done in a bit over a month, which is a relief. And yay for summer vacation <3 You deserve to be a bit lazy after the stress you've been in this term.
