i know exactly what i want and who i want to be;

Sometimes I just want to climb up on my university's rooftops and shout LESBIAAAAAAAAANS, just to see what'd turn up: a pissed-off security guard, or a love story.

In that vein: fem!Sherlock is unexpectedly difficult to write. Good to know, but fuck it. It was meant to study the ways the character might turn out as a woman, what changes it would ( Read more... )

characterization issues, then again i have issues, recs (recs recs recs), i just have a lot of feelings, look at all the amazing, cinematography, about fic, sherlock, sherlock bloody holmes

You're welcome! I was a little overwhelmed by it the first time I saw it; I'm glad you enjoyed it as well.

By the way, I am pretty ridiculously excited for fem!Sherlock. I can't even imagine how difficult it would be to write, though. So, *cheering section*!

She's a messsssss. I like her, and god she's angry, and rightly so, but it makes her more complex to write, I think. It's interesting, at any rate, I'm glad I started this.

Thanks, bb. ♥

IKR.

This is actually not an official video by Marina and the Diamonds - it's fanmade. But her songs are great, so you should absolutely look into them; they're both catchy and intelligent, I rather love them.

NOW YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL. There's nothing better than blasting i am not a robot through my headphones on the morning bus to uni.

How's work, by the way - still worthy of a DW episode?

Okay, so I'm trying to come up with something to write for my uni's speculative fiction journal, which has to be less than 3,000 words on the theme of dreams and enchantments. And now I really kind of want to write a Sleeping Beauty take-off where she's a modern person who dreams the Sleeping Beauty story and either the dream or her real life is feminist!Sleeping Beauty. I don't know. Could be awesome.

Tartan, you can't just say things like that to me and not expect me to shout at you to DO IT, DO IT, DO IT. The dream-within-dream structure was waiting for feminism to be thrown into it, what with society as it was, society as it is, and society as it should be, and I know for a fact that everything you touch becomes golden as soon as you write it. Do it! It'll be awesome!

(A speculative fiction journal sounds so amazing, ahh.)

Now I'm wondering if I can even fit that in 3,000 words. But yes. I am excited about this now. What do what do. Thoughts on structuring this?

Definitely just posted that comment and then went and had an epic solo dance party in my living room to that video. Feeling pretty good right now. :D

oh wow. i think i'm at that stage in my life right now where everything safe and what i thought was going to happen is crumbling away before my eyes and all of these expectations and uncertainty are pouring in and pulling me every which way. and sitting down to take ten minutes to watch that video--i think that was exactly what i needed: to borrow their confidence for a moment, to breathe and be reminded of who i am and to tell the direction that my life seems to be going in to fuck itself because i know exactly what i want and who i want to be. so thank you so much for posting this, it couldn't have been timed better.

(also i cannot even begin to articulate how excited i am for both the meta and femlock--SO. EXCITED. LIKE, SHAKING MY LAPTOP AND BOUNCING IN MY CHAIR EXCITED. <33)

I. I know exactly how you feel, I think; what you're describing here - to borrow their confidence for a moment - fits perfectly with what I felt when I first watched this. It shook me, and it was exactly what I needed, at that moment. There's such strength in that particular song, from i know exactly what i want and who i want to be to i'm now becoming my own self-fulfilling prophecy, and it sure as hell is influencing my writing fem!Sherlock (who is a pain in the arse but nevertheless so, so gratifying to write).

Feel free to babble. I will always be interested in the way you capture these characters. I especially like, in this, I think, the way you don't present them as this absolutely perfect, mushy couple, the way so many Mycroft/Lestrade seem to - I have to confess I haven't read that many M/L fics, so my perspective of them might be skewed - but, nevertheless, there's something delightful in the concept that they're much less at ease with each other than Sherlock and John, who stick to each other (almost) immediately: Lestrade has something quite magnetic but also something quite naive to his characterization, and I always assume that that's something he consistently has to guard himself against. And Mycroft's not a particularly easy person, either, and sometimes they'd be - well, eating up each other's space, I assume, because they've both been fairly hurt by life and have constructed firewalls against it by now. Fluff is always nice, but fic which tackles these issues will always be more interesting to me.

It is! Marina is a great singer and song-writer.

The pillow fight may be my favourite part of it, ngl.
