Though something did occur to me earlier: So are there separate people for Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England, or is it just England? And if so, what about before the UK?

I have pretty conflicted feelings about Hetalia as a whole, actually. I like the original concept (the whole 'nations as characters' one, anyhow) and the parody, nothing too serious mood of the series. On the other hand, some of the execution in the manga itself makes me go :/ at times.
On a third hand, which I don't have, I just adore France/England. I couldn't walk away from them even if I tried.
Re: UK, they're all separate, actually, though so far only England and Scotland, I think, have been given personal designs - and England stands in for the entire UK in meetings such as the G8, if I recall well. But technically, yeah, Ireland, Scotland and Wales are considered England's older siblings.
