Thought while flying from Orlando to Dallas last Saturday

I look down, through the window, and see Louisiana crawl by under me. The engine is rumbling, low and insistent, right outside my window. Trust me... the dying scream of a jet engine is a lot less pleasant than its normal howl.

I thought of that as I wrote it. Technically and grammatically, is the air's dying scream, not the engine's...

Is the sky the color of a television tuned to a dead channel?

(A Gravity's Rainbow reference might be better here, but sadly I've never read it.)

(I'm tempted to bicker that the teeth are titanium, not steel, but too lazy to do the research to make sure I'm right about that.)
