I was driving through B.Burg this morning and saw this sign in front of a church:

Self Esteem is the Enemy of God

I actually tend to think that self "esteem" is the enemy of self "respect".

The schools try to teach little kids that "there are no losers" and "everyone is a winner". Then, when they get to High School and start finding out that that's all bullshit, they can't deal with it. And since THEY can't be at fault because "there are no losers", they blame everyone else and go on shooting sprees.

That's my $0.02 YMMV.

Hmm...I can see where you are going with that, but too much of *anything* can wind up being bad for you. Your example is just one extreme...and it is more along the lines of "self-deception". There is a happy medium for all things.
