Author Notes: I'm behind at this point, but I'm hoping to catch up, as long as I can get ideas ... *hint hint*
Despite whatever pristine, romantic image people might have of him, Benton Fraser was a normal man with normal needs, desires, and ... urges. It was only, he chose not to act on their urges as often as some others, since he had long ago discovered himself to be ill-suited to casual relationships, and acting on one's more baser urges usually did not lead to meaningful intellectual intercourse. Rather, he had received the impression that it lead to intercourse of an entirely different nature.
But that didn't mean that Fraser didn't entertain fantasies where he was bolder, and more urgent, and better able to speak his mind about matter of the heart (or, he had to admit, the loins); where he was able to reach out and take the things he wanted and actually get them, not some watered-down substitute. He wanted to reach for understanding and be understood, not pitied. He wanted to reach for respect and be respected, not met with disbelief. Most of all, he wanted to reach for love and get love, not sex or plain desire.
He couldn't do any of those things, however, so instead he would reach for himself, and take comfort in the familiar--though it was a poor substitute, a starving man must take whatever he can get.
