Chapter 4: Confession

Hiroto sighed. Shaking, he looking around nervously. People were drinking their coffee or tea, eating some cake, reading the newspaper or just chatting. He would love to do something from all those, if only he could! His eyes were too blurry to read and his tongue too twisted to talk, his stomach was a mess to eat and there was no waiter around to order. He let his eyes scan the room in awaiting. Because there were so many waiters but not the one he was waiting for.

Some weeks passed and the petite boy was feeling secure enough to pay a visit alone, since his friend was quite busy lately. He had met Tora and Shou formally and he never understood how exactly, but he became a member of that group of friends. Though Tora would never accept the existence of that group. And no, he had absolutely no problem with Hiroto, in fact he seemed to like the boy, despite that in the start he was as cold as an iceberg. But he didn't seem to accept Saga, though they seemed close, according to Hiroto. Arguing or not, those two were sharing a bond and that was easy for his eyes to see. And well, at the times that they were ok with each other... Hiroto had to admit that Shou was right. They could make a perfect couple if they would start staring more far than their noses!

Shou... The boy blushed and sat straight on his chair. Those weeks Hiroto had made some really precious friends and he didn't have many of those. But well, except friendship, he had learned another feeling too. Love. A feeling so strong and powerful, crashing all of his defenses the moment he faced that smile for the first time. He didn't believe it at first but soon enough he did, when he was bathed in sweat every time that man was close to him, when he was shivering at any tiny, accidental touch from the other. Dammit, all that thinking made him feel more embarrassed than before. And where was his waiter anyway?

From the farthest corner of the shop, the boy noticed the new blond waiter there giving him thumbs up. In fact, the slender man was too distracted encouraging Hiroto that he almost tripped on a chair's leg, throwing the orders on his clients. Almost. Hiroto shook his head. That shop's owner must have been pretty desperate to hire Saga without even trial days. Yeah, Saga. The alien found his balance in a swift move and apologized gently, with that charming smile of his. The clients smiled back, paying no attention to what almost happened to them. That was Saga's magic, charming people and earning their good opinion quite easily... Well, except Tora that is... Especially after that money incident.

Tora was losing money from time to time, and only those in his pockets. No matter how many times he was careful and searched at home with Saga, they were nowhere to be found. Not that it was much, but it was his money for cigarettes. So, things got better when he kept all his money in his wallet and stopped worrying about kleptomaniac ghosts. That was till one fateful night, when Saga invited Tora for a movie in his finally new room. They were at their good days and things were as peaceful as between two good room mates could be. They were relaxing on the bed, commenting every now and then about how idiotic the decision the protagonist made was and how easier life would be for him if he just had killed that bastard villain when he could, at the start of the movie. And then Tora's eyes fell at a bookshelf, the only one filled up with things that were not his. Comics. Comics new, from earth, bought by someone who was supposed to have no earth money. Then, suddenly, all the pieces fit in the puzzle. Saga's stress, his own money loss, the too helpful alien when it came to searching... And once again, that peaceful evening ended up with growls and whines, paper flipping and guns pointing at certain noses. Only one solution existed. The next day Saga applied for work. Hiroto had asked him to join him at his workplace, so that they could talk more and read whatever comic they wanted for free but Saga had a better idea. Nothing was more tempting than taking away the only chance the dark-haired man had to stay away from him. So he applied at the coffee shop and he got accepted, for Tora's bad luck.

Hiroto sighed, looking away from the blond, who was now balancing a tray full of emptied plates and glasses on his hands. Tora was working too, glaring deadly at Saga whenever the latter was almost screwing up. It was like the man wanted Saga to get fired! And well, he had any right to want that... But... Where was he?...

“Hey, weren't you supposed to sit at your friend's shift? You are betraying Sagacchi, you know!”

The bleached-haired boy twitched on his chair, hitting his knee at the table's leg, along with his hand. He was expecting that voice eventually, true, but not whispering so close to his ear!

“Don't ever do that again, Shou!” the younger exhaled, trying to breathe normally again. Though the truth was that he would rather hear him like that or even closer every single day.

“Come on! Am I that scary Pon?” The boy tensed at the sound of his new nickname. Shou picked it up for him, finding it cute, though Hiroto had his doubts. But who could protest back at that man, when he was shining that irresistible smile of his?

“No, no...” he spelled back, feeling his mouth as dry as a desert was. And his eyes couldn't look away from those wide orbs, hypnotizing him. “I-I would like something cold...” he changed awkwardly the subject, as both of them were just standing in silence for mere moments.

“Oh, ok!” Shou snapped out from his waiting position. “What would you like?”

“Uh... I...”

“Do you want to entrust this to me?” Again Shou's melodic, tempting voice was close to him, his sweet breath causing an increase in the other's temperature. A strong hand came to rest on his shoulders, friendly but confident, the fingertips slowly caressing the area there. Hiroto bit down a rather loud gasp, luckily. “I have something in mind, I'll bring you the best and coldest drink ever!”

The boy nodded in an approving manner as slightly as he could, afraid that harder moves would make those fingers move further and he would gasp again. Shou smiled contently and left to give the order, while the smaller man was mentally counting down all the things Shou was able to bring to him, except that drink... He shivered all over. Shit! How was he going to tell the other man what he wanted?

He was there for a reason, to try his luck and say all the things he was feeling. But how? With what words? His thin hands cupped his face. He was there, so close to what he wanted to do, he shouldn't back off now!

“Back!” Shou's playful voice surprised him again, as the tall man placed a glass in front of him with something that looked refreshing in it. “I hope you'll like it!”

Hiroto took a sip slowly although he knew that he could drink even poison from those hands. It was sweet, cool and gave to his dry mouth the chance to get moist again. The boy smiled in satisfaction; trusting Shou was indeed the best thing to do...

“So, why are you in my shift today?” Shou's lively words almost choked the poor boy as he was gulping heavily, trying not to cough. A brow was raised above Shou's wide eyes while the other was trying to think something persuasive. No free tables? Bad idea, at Saga's shift were at least three tables free! Shou's grin was growing wide as his client was remaining numb, just looking at him.

“Ah...”

“He came to talk to you~” An almost singing voice was heard close to them, as a certain blond waiter was passing through. The bleached-haired boy started scratching his head nervously, his habit whenever he was stressed, noting down mentally to kill Saga later. Or kick him somewhere he would hurt. And there it shone again, that look of interest and wander, as Shou turned to him again, waiting.

“Uh... I wanted to ask you something but you have work to do! We can talk another time!” That was it, for now he was safe! Or not? Shou nodded in understanding and he was ready to answer him back, when a voice cut them again. The same stupid, amused voice.

“Maybe it's important! Tora! Take Shou's shift for a while!”

The dark-haired man, who was close when Saga called him, shot a death glare at the latter, piercing him with his eyes. They both stopped moving and just stared at each other silently. Something that was disturbing Hiroto so much. It was his own problem after all!

“Ok...” Tora finally said, averting his eyes from Saga while the other sighed in victory. “I owe you half shift after all...”

They both moved away, Tora assisting some new clients at Shou's shift and Saga delivering some orders and silence came again to rest around the other two.

“So...” Shou smiled and sat across to the other man. “Now I have the time to talk.”

Hiroto licked his lips stressed, trying to form phrases in his mind. That was stupid. He wanted to talk to Shou so damn much and now that he had the chance, jumping out of the widow to the street seemed like a better idea! “H-How have you been?” Yeah. Starting with general things was better than cutting to the chase instantly.

“Oh, fine, those days were relaxing really... But that's not why you are here, right?”

However, there are people who prefer cutting to the chase and Hiroto hated them.

“M-Maybe it's really better to talk another time?” the boy searched desperately for a clue that Shou would agree an leave him alone for the time being, but the other man's posture, moving closer to the table -to him- showed the exact opposite. “Uh... No?”

The waiter's brows moved in a negative expression and he rested his head between his hands. “You are so cute when you are nervous! And I really want to hear what you have to say...” He chuckled playfully at Hiroto's pout. “Ok, Ok! What about when my shift ends? You can wait for me at the back door...”

“That would be better, thank you! See you then!” The bleached-haired boy sighed in relief as he waved at his friend and continued sipping his drink. If he was going to confess it would be better to be away from so much crowd, especially away from Tora and Saga. As for what his crush would say... He didn't know and he didn't hope. He was going to take a risk, just so that he can take it out of his head.

With concerned eyes he checked at his watch. Damn, those last three hours were going to be torturous for him...

Hiroto's body was barely standing straight as he was walking from side to side out of the shop's backdoor. He made sure to delay a bit, hoping that Tora and Saga would be long gone by then. Checking his watch all the time didn't help it move any faster, unfortunately. Did Shou have so many things to do after work? Or did he forget him?... His heart sunk at that thought. But, on the other hand, Shou would never-

Darkness. That's what he was suddenly facing as warm fingers covered his cool from the cold face. Fingers thin and long and a breath haunted his neck.

“I told you not to scare me, didn't I-Saga?” the boy screamed in surprise as the man behind him was not the one he wanted to be. The blond alien grinned evilly at his friend.

“You haven't told him yet? And I made sure for you to have time, such a shame!”

“Shut up!” the bleached-haired boy blushed furiously. Time? What time? With so many people and especially him around to tease! “And please go!”

Saga's brown from the contacts eyes grew wide in interest as he flashed a teasing smile. “You'll tell him now, won't you? Oh, I want to hear!”

“No, you won't ! It's my business!” Hiroto shouted, taking a defensive stance.

“But I want to-”

“Oh, how sweet, a friendly argument!” The melodic laughter that followed made Saga stop and the other man shiver allover. “Why are you infuriating Pon, Sagacchi?”

The blond smirked at the sound of his friend's new nickname. “I don't!” he said, faking an innocent look. “Pon just want to tell-”

“Oh, it's so late!” Tora cut him this time. “I need a rest so much right now... Goodnight guys, I'm heading off! And you will come with me!” He grabbed Saga's wrist and pushed him away, waving to the other two and groaning as Saga was punching him lightly on the sides. Loud murmurs were echoing from them till they reached the corner of the street and they were lost from sight.

“I guess we'll walk together for a bit...” Shou muttered, placing a hand at Hiroto's back and they moved away from the shop. They talked a bit about work, strange clients and Saga's clumsiness, they laughed at some events and then silence came to claim the atmosphere around them. A silence that felt weird but not awkward. The shorter man was feeling as if his heart would jump out of his chest at any moment but the warmth of Shou's hand on his shoulders was keeping him sane. He peeked at his friend and saw Shou watching back at him intently, waiting. He gulped and took a large breath, it was time to talk.

“I've known you guys for quite awhile...” he started suddenly, drawing Shou's attention. “I've hung out with you and Tora many times -with Saga even more- and I feel happy to have friends like you...”

Shou smiled at Hiroto's childish statement, it was sweet and honest.

“But, you know, something is odd...”

“Something?”

“Someone...” Hiroto corrected his words. “You...”

The other man titled his head and gave him a confused smile. “What's wrong with me?”

“Oh, no no no no no!” the boy blushed, rubbing his face in stress. “Nothing is wrong with you, but me instead. I...” he sighed. “Look, it's complicated! From the first time I felt nice and comfortable around you but lately I... You know... Butterflies and stuff... Stomachs feeling messy and dizziness...” He shot a glance at Shou, hoping that the taller man would get what he meant. Yet Shou seemed even more confused than before.

“Butterflies? Messy stomachs and dizziness? Do I make you feel sick?”

“Oh my god, no!” Hiroto slammed his forehead with his palm and then he completely hid his head behind his palms, struggling to stop his embarrassment take over. “Me and my stupid words... I-I think its a better idea to drop it for another time... So, goodnight!”

And with that he got ready to walk really fast away from the other man. But Shou knew better as he quickly grabbed Hiroto back, pulling him close and locking him between his hands and chest. Before the shorter could protest or do the slightest move, Shou shut his full lips with his own, letting them move lightly on the soft skin, nibbling from time to time at the lower lip. The kiss was so soft and gentle, quite one-sided as Hiroto was too shocked and numb to react. After some moments Shou pulled away, laughing with the gaped expression the other still had on his face.

“Feeling any better now?” he gently asked the shorter boy as he moved him closer again, his hand embracing Hiroto's small back. The boy just nodded, smiling hypnotized. He was too drugged from happiness to command his body to act right. His vocal chords were broken from all his inner screaming and his muscles so tensed that he could break down any moment. The only thing he could do was to let himself relax at Shou's hands and move his head slightly upwards, inviting the taller to one more kiss that was not going to be one-sided this time. And Shou obeyed Hiroto's silent command. Their warm breaths and tastes mixed together in a wild, strong one, sucking all the strength out of them and transforming it into feelings, feelings hidden for so long...

“Now that this is solved, let me take you home...” Shou whispered between their tries to breathe normally and Hiroto accepted more than willingly as they moved together down the street, like a united being. Too many emotions were dancing inside the younger's head, bold and colorful, like fireworks. He was happy, so happy that he wanted to scream out loudly, so that the whole worlds could hear about his love, feeling it overflowing in the atmosphere around him. But he didn't scream, he didn't talk. He just kept watching silent the man beside him, full in love. Because he was the only one who needed to know about those feelings and words were futile. Shou already knew.

Somewhere on the same street, behind a tree at a quiet park, two more figures were standing, watching carefully that intimate moment between Hiroto and Shou. They were careful not to be noticed though, or they would be dead the very next moment. No matter Tora's protests Saga was too persistent and well, he was a bit curious too about how things would evolve between his friends. He knew that the energetic boy didn't pass unnoticed at Shou's eyes and it was child's play to read behind Hiroto's awkward behavior. So, they followed silently, watching the fine ending of this confession. And they were happy about their friends, so happy... Though a feeling was itching their insides, one they were ignoring for years but now came to disturb them more than ever. Loneliness.

“Show is over. Let's go home now, ok?” Tora almost whispered at the air around him.

Saga nodded and followed the dark-haired man back home, walking a bit behind him. He was feeling cold and frustrated, lost in his thoughts. He needed a hand to lead him out of his confusion, to hold him as Shou did for Hiroto but he had no one. His eyes fell unconsciously at the man in front of him but instantly he averted his sight on his shoes. There was no way Tora would do that for him. And he didn't care.
