Designated Swearer #2

Aug 03, 2006 16:36

And lo, the weekend.

Got to the bus station to pick up the girl around 8:45 - it was an absolute mess. I was pretty lucky to get a parking spot. We packed up quickly and took off, stopping at Wal-Mart on the way to get a couple of towels, as I had a little mishap with the dishwasher to clean up. We got home, I cooked some alfredo pasta... and that was pretty much it, as we were both dead tired.

Well, except for the birthday presents she gave me while the pasta cooked.

- A recipe book for pasta sauces (aquahaute: "NO ULTERIOR MOTIVE WHATSOEVER!")
- A recipe book for breads (I've only tried one bread from scratch before - twice - so this should help give me ideas for trying it again sometime)
- A new bread pan, this time a plastic one that is very flexible and easy to get stuff out of (a godsend for using the previous item)
- A microwave warmer specifically for pizza (which will see use, as I make pizza semi-frequently, and probably will get back to going for Every Sunday once football season gets going again)

^_^

I think she might have booted up the PSP a bit, and maybe I showed her a demo of Ouendan, but it was z early.

I went to work for a half-day. Long story short, it was more HPLC stuff - I think that was the day I ran blanks through the system. Anyway. I called up the girl and we discussed our plans, eventually deciding to scrap Lady in the Water, as it combined with going out to eat and doing grocery shopping would kill 6+ hours (shopping during rush hour is bad). I cooked up the usual tuna pasta for lunch, though it didn't turn out as well as last time. Note to self: make it for yourself and write down exactly what you put in. >.>

After lunch, we finally got to open up Guitar Hero, our big purchase from ACen '06. We spent a good while on it, going through tier 1 and 2 in multiplayer and in career mode on Easy. Once we finished there, we took off for a while. Best Buy was our first stop - didn't buy anything, but we did dawdle in various sections staring at stuff. Next stop was Disc Replay, a hole-in-the-wall used DVD/game store near the Wal-Mart on Southport Road. There wasn't a terribly large amount of stuff there either, but we had fun looking around.

Wal-Mart was the next stop. Can't remember how exactly the conversation started - I think I was reminded by us discussing a game he appeared in - but we settled on discussing Cam Clarke for a couple minutes. I relayed the story of how I informed #fftchallenge about the album he released a while back (which they had no idea existed), then I paused.

falcon815: "Speaking of gay voice actors..."

I didn't have a chance to finish the sentence before she stopped and doubled over in laughter. I don't think she expected the segue. (I was referring to the Lance Bass thing, which amused me terribly. It must be an FFVII / KH slash fangirl's dream.)

Snagged everything else we needed for the weekend from the grocery, then headed back home. I tried calling Chad - no dice. I think we went back to Guitar Hero...? Tier 3 songs on multi and career in Easy. She did play some MGS3 on Friday as well, though I can't remember when (before supper, after supper, don't remember). I know she got through Ocelot and The Pain, though.

Supper was an experience, as it was the first time she or I had attempted to make biscuits and sausage gravy. The first attempt at the gravy was a complete failure. The second time, it worked perfectly. <3 Well worth the effort. That's something else I'm going to have to work on and try again for myself at some point.

Um... don't remember much else. She poked at MGA a little every day, so maybe she did a mission or two that night.

Hmm...

Not sure the order of how things went during the day, but the following occurred:

- She got to the end of Graniny Gorki in MGS3 (much faster than I did)
- More Guitar Hero (did we start on Medium that day...? I forget)
- Tortilla soup for lunch! ^_^ And it wasn't even too spicy for her this time! Just too hot. Note to self: let simmer longer on lower heat.
- I started MGS: Twin Snakes on Extreme while she played MGS3. Got to the end of the Mantis fight in a couple of sittings.

At some point early in the day, I got hold of Chad. We made plans to meet at the Johnny Carino's across from the mall, then come to my place, since theirs was being fumigated. Around 6:30, we got there, and found them reasonably quickly. Carino's had an advertised 45 minute wait, so I proposed that we head over to Half-Price Books to look around. We spent about 20 minutes bumming around there, then I asked if they wanted to stop at Gamestop (since Chad and Ruth Ann have been looking for PS2 / GC multiplayer games other than Mario Party, SSBM, and Mario Kart), and they agreed. On the way, though, the pager went off for our Carino's table, so we hurried back and got to the restaurant.

Chad got the lasagna on my recommendation and seemed to like it. Ruth Ann got... some kind of angel hair pasta. Andrea had ... bow ties with alfredo? And I had the spicy chicken romano (same as I had my first time there), which was good. We had a blast talking with each other. <3

Afterward, we headed for my place and fired up SSBM with handicaps on, which was great fun despite the unofficial 3v1 nature (which was so prevalent that when my handicap dropped to 3 and I kept dying in 2-3 hits, and took a fourth place, they had no idea what to do). I cycled through some more with the RNDM name - I should take a look at its overall stats to see who the most / 2nd most / least used players are.

Also, one of the two matches came down to me against Andrea, which resulted in Ruth Ann speaking Andrea's mind: "Oh, f-ing hell." (I think Ruth Ann could end up being the new 'designated swearer'. >.>) They seemed to get along pretty well. ^_^

I'll have to get together with them again sometime when they're not busy. Don't know when that will be, but they have my number. Thankfully, I'm not allergic to cats; they not only still have the three cats they had the last time I visited, but they now have five more. o_o

Chad and Ruth Ann took off late - around 11 - and we went to bed soon after.

We got up significantly earlier on Sunday, largely so I could get chicken cooked for lunch. We played some more Guitar Hero in the morning (though I can't remember exactly what - I think this was the 4th tier songs on Easy day, where to her surprise, she beat me 99% to 98% on one of them), had the buffalo chicken soup for lunch, then went back to gaming; Twin Snakes Extreme for me, MGS3 for her. Within a couple hours, she hit the battle I thought she'd have trouble with... and in the end, she beat it faster than I did. I can let her tell the full story, though, including her staring transfixed after the battle. ^_^

Pizza for supper. <3 It didn't turn out so well. I needed to not re-knead the dough. :\ Won't make that mistake again.

That evening, she got to the minigame in MGS3 (thankfully passing the portion I was afraid she'd get to really late at night), and I finished Twin Snakes on Extreme sometime around 11-11:30. w00t. I've got my stats back on the home computer, but I do remember that I came out with whatever ranking is 11th on the scale of 12. She got 10th. Who's inferior now, hmm? :P

I'm sure she got a little more MGA done that day too. I remember her playing it while I cooked the pizza, and that took about an hour.

We got up a little early on Monday - sometime around 9:30? She got back into MGS3, and basically didn't stop until she'd finished, though we had a few breaks in there. I'd characterize the best moment of that as follows:

falcon815: "Now, don't worry about ammo in this part; you've got all the weapons, and infinite ammo."
aquahaute: "All the weapons? I missed some?"
falcon815: "Yeah." *points out RPG-7 and explains how to use it effectively*
aquahaute: "Okay." *keeps scrolling* "...I have infinite porn!"
falcon815: "You found the internet in the sidecar!"

^_^

Anyway, she did finish the game, which is happy. She's now caught up on canon, so if/when more stuff on 4 / Portable Ops comes out, we'll actually be able to discuss it.

We had leftover soup for lunch and watched some Secret Theater stuff in Subsistence to unwind before she left.

BREAKING NEWS:

We have just learned of a trade between aquahaute and falcon815. Sources close to the transaction indicate that the following has taken place:

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan and Metal Gear Ac!d to aquahaute
Rhapsody and Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls to falcon815

The source seems confident that aquahaute is enjoying Ouendan. ^_^

And there we have it.

I started poking at an MGS3 Extreme run last night. It's going decently, but then again, I'm only about 6 screens in. :P I'll see how far I can effectively get.
