Another question

Is it wrong to know that you're too immature, unintelligent, or unwilling to handle something? Is it okay to deny salient truths? And therefore, is it acceptable to be hurt when someone tries to expose you to this reality against your will, though he or she knows very well that you can't handle it? What is an existence that can handle all truth?

I thank you for this long, well-thought out response. I agree with you that all people aren't equal. I read something about this in Thus Spoke Zarathustra last night (All men aren't created equal. Thus speaks Justice. (or something like that)). Our senses of what is socially acceptable are completely screwed up. Consider The Stranger, by Camus. The main character is alienated from the society in which he lives not because he killed an Arab, but because he didn't cry at his mother's funeral. He's condemned to death for following his own sense of truth, for perceiving a reality different from that of the collective (borg, anyone?). In fact, he doesn't cry because he feels that his tears would shame the full and good life that his mother lived, that his regret of her death would be melodramatic and unwarranted. But no one wants to hear that. Reason is wasted on mass opinions.
