Chapter 11

Dorian was nice enough to let Rachel and Alison change back to human form and get dressed in the hidden corridor leading to the compound. He warned, “Leave the leashes on, unless you want us dragging you by your hair.”

Rachel and Alison gave both men dirty looks, but left the leashes and collars around their necks. The instant they were both dressed, Dorian and the other man grabbed the leashes and half-pulled them along.

They were quiet as they were led into the compound and to Aldric. They were taken to the same room where Aldric had sent Keith and Dan off to kill Raniero.

“Ah, Dorian, I see you’ve found our little lost ones. Very good,” was Aldric’s greeting.

“We’re not your little ones,” Alison hissed.

Aldric ignored Rachel’s protest. “You are my… leverage against Keith and Dan. How else would I make them do what I need done? Needless to say, I’m not pleased with you for trying to escape. I understand it, but you’ll have to be punished.”

“Go fuck yourselves,” Rachel growled.

Aldric sighed. “Take Alison back to their room. Rachel will be staying here for a little while.”

Alison tightly wrapped her arms around Rachel’s waist from behind. “No. She comes with me, or I stay with her.”

“You’re not in any position to make any demands.”

Rachel outwardly remained calm as she turned to quietly say into her friend’s ear, “Alison, I’ll be alright. Go.”

“Rach-“

Rachel unhooked Alison’s fingers from around her waist. “Go. You refusing would only make it worse.” She placed a gentle kiss on Alison’s temple.

Alison reluctantly let go. One of the men tugged on the leash still around her neck. Alison stumbled, but still managed to fix an angry glare on Aldric and Dorian.

It took until after Alison was half-pulled past the door for her to shout, “Leave her alone! Don’t touch her!”

Jon and Richard pressed their ears to the locked door at the sound of frenzied shouting. The muffled feminine voice yelled, “Stop! Let me go! No, don’t hurt her!”

Jon fell back onto his butt at the loud thump against the door and the yelp of pain. He got back up and crouched against the door again.

“Stop! Let me go! Don’t let him hurt-“ Alison’s voice broke off into another painful cry.

A low gruff voice said, “You don’t want to be in there when your friend gets punished.”

“At least I’ll be with her!”

That was the last thing Jon and Richard heard before Alison was apparently dragged away. They slumped against the door.

“That was Alison,” Richard said quietly.

“And she was yelling for Rachel,” said Jon. “Begging them not to hurt her.”

Richard dropped his head onto Jon’s shoulder. “So… where does this leave us?”

Jon laid his head on his friend’s. “Keith and Dan hopefully not getting killed in Italy, Alison caught, Rachel being punished, Lawrence… not himself.”

“And, the two of us not being able to do a damn thing about it,” Richard finished.

“Hey, don’t despair now. We’ll make it through this.”

“We as in you and me, or-“

“We as in our pack. We’ll make it through, Richard. We have to.”

Alison was shoved into the room. She got to her feet just as the door was slammed shut and locked. She pounded her fists against it, shouting, “Don’t hurt her! No!”

She gave up a few moments later, knuckles tired and raw. She slumped against the wall, just waiting for them to bring Rachel back. Her anxiety only grew with each moment that passed.

Finally, the door was unlocked and Rachel was thrown inside. Alison made it up to her knees in time to barely catch her limp body. The door was slammed closed and locked again.

Alison cradled Rachel in her lap to look her over. Her clothes were torn in various places. Large cuts in her flesh bled through the tears. Visibly darkening bruises marred her face and exposed collarbone. Her nose looked like it was broken. A rattling sound accompanied her shallow breaths.

“Rachel! Rachel, talk to me, please.”

Rachel’s breathing quickened, and the rattling in her chest became louder. “A… Ali…?

“I’m here, Rach. It’s… it’s okay. I’m here.”

Rachel grasped the front of Alison’s shirt and pulled herself up to rest her head against her friend’s chest. “Ali…”

Alison made a gentle hushing sound. “Rachel, I want you to change for me, okay? Before you pass out or something, please.”

“… tired, Ali…”

“I know you’re tired, but you can do it.” Alison buried her nose in Rachel’s hair as it slowly turned to fur. Soft whines in her ear came a minute later.

Rachel waited a few minutes before changing back to gather enough strength to do so.

“I love you,” Alison whispered into Rachel’s human ear. She felt her friend’s naked body shiver. “Come on, let’s get you into bed.” She half-pulled Rachel onto the mattress.

Alison looked to Rachel’s backpack, which had two sets of spare clothes. She moved to get it, but stopped when Rachel’s fingers grasped at her shirt.

“Stay,” Rachel said, her eyelids drooping.

“You sure?”

A weak nod, accompanied by more shivering. “C-cold…”

Alison settled on the mattress and pulled the blankets over them, covering Rachel’s naked body. Alison held Rachel close, settling her chin in her friend’s hair, with one hand cradling the back of Rachel’s head, and the other pulling the blanket up higher, until it was at Rachel’s ear.

“Ali?”

“Hmm?”

“They… Lawrence… they did something to him. Not himself.”

“What do you mean?”

“Th-they told him to… to hurt me. H-he did… without hesi… hesitation. Looked d-different, too.”

Alison kissed the top of Rachel’s head to comfort her. She whispered, “Rach, Rachel, it’ll be alright. I won’t let them hurt you. Not again.”

“ ‘Kay, Ali… Love you,” Rachel sleepily mumbled as Alison rubbed circles into her back.

Alison closed her eyes. What had they done to Lawrence that turned him against Rachel? Whatever they had done, this was too far.

***********

Alison woke up with a numb arm. She sighed and shifted her arm around. She stopped when Rachel stirred and tightened her fists in her shirt.

“Okay, okay, I’m not going anywhere,” whispered Alison. She moved her arm in a better position and felt the nerves waking up. Rachel settled back into a full sleep.

Alison absentmindedly stroked Rachel’s hair. She could feel something was off about Lawrence now. Something perverted and wrong.

There was a quiet knock on the door. Alison didn’t get up to answer. If Aldric wanted them, he would have to drag them out there.

The door unlocked and Alison saw light blond hair in the dim light. “What do you guys want, now?”

“I wasn’t sent by Aldric or Dorian,” Pierre quietly replied. “I came to check on you. Is Rachel resting?”

“Yes. She’ll be alright.” Alison felt like she could trust the young man. She sat up and pulled the sleeping Rachel up with her, keeping the blanket securely around her. “What did they do to her? She said something about Lawrence.”

Pierre sadly nodded and sat on the floor at Alison’s side. “Aldric and Dorian turned Lawrence into a… feral. He’s partially transformed, and all he knows is anger and hate. Some plant causes this reaction if eaten by werewolves.” He took a deep breath. “Aldric brought Lawrence out and told him to attack Rachel. Aldric is the only one who can really control him.”

“I want to see him.”

“Lawrence?”

“Yes.”

Pierre shook his head. “When I took Jon and Richard to see him, Lawrence attacked Richard. Didn’t hurt him, but if we hadn’t left, he would’ve.”

“Lawrence wouldn’t do that. He wouldn’t hurt any of us.”

“He doesn’t remember you, any of you, his life… That’s another effect of that plant they made him eat. If he tried to resist and not eat it, they were going to hurt Richard. He… he didn’t know what the plant would do to him.”

“Damn it. With a… choice like that, Lawrence would sacrifice himself for one of us. Any of us would do the same.” Alison kissed Rachel’s forehead. “What do we do, Pierre?”

“I… I don’t know. I have no answers. There are a couple others who don’t like what Aldric is doing, but they don’t want to get on his bad side.”

Alison snorted, “I don’t blame them.”

“We’ve never seen Aldric like this before. If I get caught meeting with you guys like this… I don’t know.”

“Pierre, I appreciate you telling me about Lawrence. You should probably go, before they start suspecting you of being up to something.”

Pierre nodded and stood to leave. “You’re welcome. And, I’m sorry for all this.”
