this might sound like a wierd question but what tense do you prefer to read stories in? There's a trend in fanfiction to write in the 3rd person present even though conventionally stories are written in the past. I know it sounds a bit pedantic to ask but I know some people absolutely hate to read things written in the present tense so I thought I would ask. I'm afraid 3rd person present and 3rd person past are you're only options as the story wouldn't really work in either 1st or 2nd person.
I absolutely LOVE reading (and writing) different tenses. I took a break from writing fanfiction for a while and when I came back to it recently, I actually found that I had FORGOTTEN how to write in past tense, because I'd been writing all this original stuff in present. It was like pulling teeth. I'm a big fan of tense and POV shifts between scenes, as well, and experimental structure and non-linear storytelling... but I also don't need anything fancy like that to appreciate a good story. Whatever works best for the story you are telling is exactly what you should use to write it!
