In two hours, I'll be going under the knife laser for corrective eye surgery. As this is my first any-type-of-surgery, I'm now starting to feel slightly nervous. Logically, the doctor has performed this procedure 1500+ times and there shouldn't be anything to worry about, so that's what I'm going to have to run with ( Read more... )

Hey, how much does this procedure cost, is it covered by insurance, and where are you having it done?

I think it's around 1600-2100 per eye depending on where you get it done, Mike is using his Health Savings Account to pay for it- so I assume it's not covered by his plan, and TLC Vision (The Laser Eye Center) in Waltham, MA.

good luck mike, definitely an intimidating procedure and it must have been a tough decision but I think the right one

itll be weird never seeing you with glasses on again, but i'm sure itll be weirder for you to not be wearing them ever

It's definitely the right decision... But I'm just curious... Do they still slice your eye with a scalpel and peel back the eye lid, or do they have a better way of doing it now?

I think it'd be pretty terrifying to have it done... you are a stronger man than I.

They have bladeless LASIK now, though I'm not sure if Mike is having the procedure with or without the scalpel performed. The bladeless LASIK is apparently a way they can perform the surgery on people with thin corneas who had previously been classed as not viable candidates.

Cool. So I guess now it's just how much you are willing to spend on the procedure. Awesome. So that'd mean that the healing time would also be dramatically reduced. Cool. It's looking more and more tempting each time I hear about it.

So I get to ask "How's your eye McGlinchey?" and you won't get pissed?

Hope everything went ok! How long does it take to recover? Luckily I think I'm hearing the snow isn't going to be quite as bad as initially thought. I don't think we're going to be having a mega blizzard or anything.

You call this a mega blizzard?! I hear the mountains got hit pretty hard, but this is far from crazy. It's a few inches of snow! I initially heard we could get a good deal more than we ended up getting. The worst part will be tomorrow morning if and when this stuff all freezes.
