Presents under the tree...

I was listening to CBC radio for a while today, and there was an item about Christmas, and gift-giving, especially for children. One woman had a suggestion that I liked; that each child understands that he or she will get four presents:
    Something you want
    Something you need
    Something to wear
    Something to read

That's such a great idea. I worry when I see my nephews with sooo many presents at Christmas, I'm pretty sure it's not a good thing :-/

I think commercialism and materialism has overtaken the world and I don't like it - but I try not to say too much for fear of sounding like a puritan curmudgeon. I think this is a good way of keeping Christmas in perspective.

I like this way of handling it!

Mind you, it's a terror getting something my parents either want or need. I may start threatening them with knitwear.

Would they not like knitwear?

I never had much trouble thinking of gifts for my mother, but my father was impossible to buy for.
