They've found some medieval underwear. Not in such bad shape, either. You can really tell what it is. But then again, how many viable designs can you have for bra and panties ( Read more... )

Very interesting!

I wonder if underwear wasn't another medieval thing (like bathing) that later went out of fashion for a few centuries.

I wonder if the lack of historic underwear garments is because a) they were not particularly valued to be carefully kept by subsequent generations b) they wear out and are discarded.

Yup,both of those things. Who bothers to preserve their underwear for posterity?

And clothing in general doesn't last 600 years. Not without special efforts to preserve it.

Makes sense to me. If women used rags or moss to absorb menstrual blood, they'd have needed something like that to hold it in place.
