I enjoyed Deadwood, but I think your description is a good one, that it attempts to be realistic, but it is also stylized. The language is a good example, somehow 19th c. yet.... did people really talk like that constantly? LOL I don't just mean the swearing. :-). I liked Brad Dourif, too. Keith Carradine does a good job as Wild Bill -- that whole arc is well done.

I think my problem with Deadwood is that in its attempts to seem realistic, it ends up with the atmosphere of the early 21st century, not the 1880s.

The actors are good. It's the script... the concepts... I was skeptical about. It was like modern people walking around in a 19th century re-enactment of the characters they were playing.

I enjoyed the "Haven" Christmas special. It was everything I enjoy about "Haven."

Yesterday, I saw the "Eureka" Christmas special on cable. It was okay, but it impressed me as a rip-off of Stargate SG-1, season 10, episode 6, "200." That almost ruined it for me.

On NCIS, Gibbs delivered a baby. It wasn't special or a virgin birth, but it felt Christmassy. And DiNozzo, Ziva and McGee stood in for the Three Wise Guys . . .errr . . . Three Wise Men.

That's good to hear! It doesn't sound as if the shows are going all out for Christmas as they used to - as I wish they did - but that's okay, too. I think it's part of the multicultural society and I can make my own Christmas entertainment. Still... I'd like more.

Yeah, I liked Castle better when Beckett looked like a cop and not a pretty girl. I still like it and still watch it--but I miss some things.

That's how I feel. It's still fun and I still like the plots, but I miss some of the original set-up. They were all a little more interesting in the beginning.
