This afternoon I decided to go for a long walk. It was drizzling a little, but not badly. I set out optimistically. And in less than an hour I was tired and my back was aching. I had to take a bus to get home

I usually don't have any trouble with a Liverpool accent. When I was there in August, I understood everyone with no problem. But there's something about the way Paul O'Grady talks - I kept missing bits and had to rewind, thinking "What did he say?" It wasn't a bad video - I'm not sure what it was.
I should moan you for that to defend myself *g* but the Scouse accent isn't exactly what you would call 'pleasant' so I can't really argue! Blame the Welsh, the Irish and the Lancastrians!

I'm happy to hear it, because I really liked her on this. It's not everyone who can hold her own with John Barrowman, and be charming at the same time.
You spent 2 days with me and you can't understand Paul O'Grady? He's a Scouser! Kind of. Actually, he's actually from Birkenhead on the other side of the water and the accent is a bit different.
Paul O'Grady is almost-but-not-quite a Scouser - he comes from the Wirral, the other side of the Mersey from Liverpool. For a very long while he was most famous as a female impersonator, using the name Lily Savage.

I find I didn't have a hard time understanding Paul, but I'm odd, me.
Glad to hear you cheered up a bit

Yeah, I'm glad I cheered up, too.

I've always found it an unpleasant accent, but not incomprehensible.

I had no trouble understanding the accents I heard in Liverpool. Maybe I would have had a problem if I'd crossed the Mersey!
