Kenilworth...

Aug 06, 2009 19:11

Saw Kenilworth Castle from the outside. In the rain - from the dry comfort of a car.

Then went back to gillo's place and, among other wonderful adventures at least partly involving Shakespeare, watched several episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, one of New Tricks, and the Ian McKellen episode of ExtrasTomorrow I will see Kenilworth Castle properly ( Read more... )

Yup, I knew I needed to get Dave to give you the key...

Sweet dreams!

I knew I needed to get Dave to give you the key...

Ninety percent asleep, I still had to post something.

I slept very well, with bedding that has my favourite motif (sun and stars in blue) and I hope I dreamed of Spike.

I'm glad you like the bedding. And I know all about the urge to post!

I've always wanted bedding just like that, but haven't been able to find it in Ottawa lately - not the right kind and size. I found it once in red, but red doesn't count. Another continuing quest!

good on you, I've been to Kenilworth (heck, live not that far away) but have to say we've been to the play ground and not inside the castle itself - looking forward to hearing about your experience :D

Kenilworth is stupendous. Part of the joy of it is the fame and glamour of the people associated with it - including Simon de Montfort, but even more, Elizabeth I and Robert Dudley. There is a beautiful Renaissance Garden - eventually my many photos will, I hope, make it to my LJ.

Kenilworth is known to me only as the name of a brand of large truck. Which is neither here nor there, but certainly (I bet) not a reply that you would have been expecting! ha

Sort of like Mack (also truck) or John Deere (farm tractors, in the old days, and now also many other sorts of farm equipment) or International Harvester (both trucks and farm equipment).

You are undoubtedly filling your days so full that you haven't written me any postcards yet... hmmmm?

I sent you a postcard. You just don't have it yet.

Never heard of a Kenilworth truck, but I knew it well from history - it's associated with Elizabeth I and Robert Dudley. She gave it to him, and he held a huge bash for her there, with theatrics and fireworks.

Party castle! Yow!!

Yes. I must eat my words. I got your postcard twelve hours after I wrote that post... erk. Cute little narrow-gauge train, it was.

The train was really quite wonderful. Made me think of fairgrounds and kids' rides, but it's a real honest-to-goodness commuter train in a place where there aren't a lot of places for a train to go to.

Glad you got the postcard!

Glad you're still having fun! Should we set a day/time for phoning?
Also, are you going to be anywhere long enough for me to post something to you?

Not sure about being in one place long enough for mail - I don't know how long it takes from Edinburgh to other UK cities. You know how long it can take for mail to reach Ottawa, and yet at least two people have received post cards from me. I am amazed. I thought I'd be home before they got any.

2 days max.
Are you going to be in Edinburgh, then? If so, I could nip across.

I'll know better after i've talked to my cousin tomorrow. I don't want to make driving/schedule decisions for her.

Sounds like a good day!

We're nearly at the end of season 2 with Buffy. Two more episodes to go.

It was a great day.

So glad you're carrying on with Buffy - I just watched to the end of season 4 today. Enjoyed it very much, too.
