I don't read most of your short works because they are from universes I don't know well. Obviously I need to catch up on my universes.

Great fill-in for the Barrayan part of the Beta scenes of Shards.

Although the last line didn't seem to keep him from the attempted-death-by-alcohol-poisoning-or-flyer-smashup path.

Yes, I've wondered about the conversations that led to Piotr's greeting of Cordelia. Thanks for taking us there!

Most of my stories these days are Torchwood based, or a mixture of Torchwood and Doctor Who - which is the same universe.

I love Shards and it was a chance for me to write about Piotr- who is one of the characters I love.

Aral hasn't been drinking enough - yet.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Oh, interesting to get a Piotr POV. I liked how he thought about the Vorrutyers, and I loved the last line.

I love writing Piotr - he's one of my favourite Bujold characters. Nobody talks about him much, but he's dear to my heart.

Thanks for commenting.

So glad you enjoyed this! The novel features a war between the planet Barrayar - a culture sort of like Czarist Russia - and Beta Colony, a planet sort of like the USA. Aral is a high ranking official on the Barrayaran side, who early in the novel takes the Captain of a Betan survey ship prisoner - that's Cordelia. But his people are plotting against him, and in the course of the novel, they fall in love. Eventually she goes back to Beta Colony, and that's the stage at which I wrote this piece. It all ends happily: they end up marrying and their son is the protagonist of most of the following novels in the series. He's quite remarkable, but Aral is my favourite of the characters.

Definitely a nice portrait of Piotr Vorkosigan -- who often seems to be so poorly visible, or (when he does show up) seems to be a stock "critic of change" (particularly so in Barrayar).

I'm more familiar with this universe than either Doctor Who or Torchwood. Someday, I'll have to catch up on both series ... and a couple of other ones, like Buffy.

Sadly, there are only 168 hours in a week and about (52*168 + 24+6) = 8766 hours in a year. I wish I had more time ... for a lot of things.

So he is. He's the representative of "old school Barrayar". We are all shaped by the forces of our youth, and he has every reason to be suspicious of Betan customs.

I always love Piotr; he's what Aral might have been, had he been born in another age. He's a man of powerful loves and strong principles, and a great deal of courage. I always felt I undestood him completely - in ways I don't understand, for example, Lady Alys.

I'll have to catch up on both series ... and a couple of other ones, like Buffy.

I have to do some catching up on Buffy myself.

We all wish we had more time for pleasant things.
