17. Tell me something about you that I don’t know:
One of my ancestors was deported to Australia for life when he was aged 12 for stealing a loaf of bread.

THAT could soooooooooooooooooooooo be great fic fodder ya know?

If you want to write it go ahead. :) I can tell you his name was John or Jack Bryant (there seems to be some confusion about which it was). He was 12 when he was deported, he left behind his mother and father and several siblings. No one seems to know the exact date he left though it was probably late 18th century, early 19th. It wasn't until one of my older cousins was poking around in some letters from that time that he discovered that he was in fact deported. It seems the family had let it be known that he had died rather than have the shame of everyone knowing what he did.

Yes, I've been wasting too much time watching the Olympics too. :) (Gotta look at something while all the Hugo footage is downloading because my aged computer won't do two things at once.) No, living in the US these days isn't great, though I hope it will one day be again. Once the extreme right overplays their hand and gets slapped down. That eventuality, as Agent Smith would say, is inevitable, though I hope things don't get much worse before they get better. ;)

Oooh, mail? For me? These days I rarely get mail unless I buy something. :)

Are you a direct descendant of the notorious bread thief or is that an offshoot of the family? In my family all the ne'er-do-wells came over here. :)

Yep I'm a direct descendant through my mothers side of the family, LOL they also lay claim that Blackbeard the pirate was one of the family!

Did you get my mail yet? I know it wasn't very exciting but I was in real writing mode at the time. Don't feel you have to reply.

I love the olympics, Victoria is insisting we plan on going to see the next ones in Vancouver. Somehow I can't see either her or hubby standing for hours in the cold as they complain about how cold it is here as it is, but we shall see.

I did get your letter finally--thank you very much! I have a card and will be replying as I find time. (One of my employers has changed my schedule around AGAIN...never work for a musician! You never know what time they'll need you to show up or what shape they'll be in when you do. Actually this guy is a good friend, but I hope I'm never asked to pick him up at the train station a three in the morning. EVER AGAIN!) Back to topic though, I do enjoy sending and receiving snail mail, though I always have trouble finding things to talk about. (Online it's much easier because I can just bring up whatever Hugo's been up to, heh heh ( ... )

I love snail mail too, he he my trouble as you can see is not knowing when to shut up. I'll talk about anything, the weather, what time it is, etc etc etc. Strange at it may seem I can keep a secret though. I got your letter today, I love the card.

I'm counting on the family changing their minds between now and then for the olympics, once they realise how cold it might get. :)
