Beach!

I am going to the Outer Banks for a whole week with my family.

That's, like, a regular-person vacation.... (i.e. not a convention*). I'm super excited about it. I grew up in western NC but have never, not once, been to its coast. And I have packed an ENTIRE SUITCASE of books. Granted, it's a small suitcase, but still ( Read more... )

Enjoy! :) And I'm amazed you were able to restrain yourself to a small suitcase. After all, the beach IS nature's perfect reading spot!

Oh man, have fun! If you've never been, I have two suggestions on places to visit. First, the Hatteras lighthouse. So cool. Second, Ocracoke Island is a neat little island with a village that is only accessible by ferry. Everything else is a bonus.

Enjoy your trip!

To be perfectly honest, mostly all I want to do is lounge on the beach reading and swimming by turns and eating great seafood & playing board games at night. I might be persuaded to visit the Wright Bro's museum if I get my fill of the primary game plan.

On this trip anyway. Since it seems to be turning into something of an annual tradition for my mom, sister, and bro-in-law, there's plenty of further opportunities. Thanks for the recs! :-)

Yeah, Ocracoke is basically a full day thing, because it's the furthest south point of the (easily accessible) Outer Banks. Hatteras is along the way, so we usually do both in one go. Still, just relaxing at the beach is also a perfectly legitimate strategy. :)

Have a great time. *sigh* What I wouldn't give for a normal-person vacation like EVER.
