Here we go

Okay, I've been obsessing over these midterm elections for what feels like 10 years, so I can't not comment.

I absolutely agree with you about secular government. I'm not saying we need a national religion or a theocracy. I'm talking about forcing a secular society. Things like banning a cross from a seal, or taking down crosses on a highway that mark fallen CHP officers, or condemning people who say "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays" is the sort of thing that frustrates me.

Very interesting indeed :)

Great post, couldn't agree with you more. Happy to see things swinging around a bit. I think having one party rule this country is a mistake. I personally, wish we would see more outsiders enter the world of politics and break the cycle of "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" and include more politicians that work for the people who voted for them. Anyway, give it about eight peaceful months until we start hearing about the next election cycle.... argggh

Thanks! What's nice about this election is that there are a LOT of newbies who aren't in the "scratch" cycle you described. I'm hoping that will help.

That was Mitch McConnell who said that, and I agree, that was a stupid thing to say given these economic times. We still have two years until 2012 and I'd like us all to take a break before we run headfirst into the primaries ( ... )

There may be radical fringes of the Tea Party, but I went to a rally in Redlands and it was nothing but middle class Americans who were fired up and ready to make their voices heard. It's not a ratings ploy, it's democracy.

Like I said, my heart breaks for those who can't find a job and are without insurance. I'm not suggesting that they're losers who sit at home and make no effort to find one. But as daybythelake said, the fact that those who don't pay for health insurance get the same coverage as those who do is not fair. It's obviously something we're always going to disagree on, but I just want to make clear that I have total sympathy for those who are in that position.
