They were sitting on the windowsill together, one basking in the moonlight, the other sleepily watching the empty sky. It was a quiet night, a lonely night, even, but the silence between them was not uncomfortable.
Kero yawned and stretched, his tail flicking lazily. Blindly he groped with one small paw for the plate of cookies lying nearby-his midnight snack.
His paw made contact with the soft doughy texture of a chocolate chip cookie. Surprised, he sat up and rubbed his eyes. The cookie lay several inches away from the plate.
Grinning, he held out the cookie. “Want some, Yue?”
