Short now of some of her food due to passing inhabitants of the Pentamerone and happily sharing extras of things she was carrying, Whitney made her way up to Richie's apartment with her arms full. Very full, in fact, despite having her load lightened, with bags hooked over fingers and boxes stack atop other boxes in her arms. Perhaps she had gone a little overboard, but it wasn't often lately she was able to do one of her favorite things, buy things for friends, whatever those things might be ( ... )

Richie heard the shuffling, the not-quite-a-knock, and tilted his head a little, glancing toward the door. He heard Whitney's voice next, and broke into a small smile.

"It's open!" he called to her, shifting slightly so he could see the door a little bit better. "Hi, Whitney," he added. His immediate area was somewhat messy - he had his pain pills, glass of water, remote control, cell phone, blankets, magazines, a few books... but the rest of the apartment was neat and orderly.

Having freed enough of one hand to grasp the door handle, Whitney turned and pushed with her hip, shuffled bags and boxes reshuffled again to carry them through the door. The door remained open for the moment, as she wasn't about to try closing it until she had unloaded the food. Grinning at Richie over the boxes, her expression was cheerful despite her burdened state.

"Hey, Richie! I... okay, I brought too much food. But there's lots to choose from!" A quick glance around and then she headed toward the kitchen, listing off the food she now carried so he could choose. "I brought disposable plates and such, so the others can use those, but I'll do dishes if you want me to use your dishes for you."

"Hi!" he greeted her again, eyes going a little bit wide at the sight of all that junk food and take-out. "Wow. It's okay! I won't complain about too much junk food," he said, smiling a little bit. It was that pained smile he'd perfected in the past couple of days. Hopefully soon it would stop hurting when he breathed. That would be so much better.

"Whichever you want," he said, "I don't mind paper plates. Hey, can you help me with something later?" he asked her, rearranging his pillow underneath his head and shifting his weight a little bit. "Allison's birthday is today and I can't really go shopping..." he pressed his lips together. "Plus I don't know what to get her. She's getting here tomorrow."

There were a number of people already at Richie's apartment by the time Jonathan got there. He was still getting used to gaging how long the subway in New York took from one place to another. He usually acclimated to a new city faster than this, but New York was rather unlike any other place he'd lived before.

He gave a perfunctory knock on the half-open door and nudged it aside. "Hey," he said, "how's the invalid?"

"Not deaf," said invalid joked from the couch with a small chuckle, peering toward the door. No, no good, someone was in the way. He couldn't quite see who that was, but he assumed they were friendly. Ah, there; whoever was blocking his line of sight moved, and he saw who it was. He didn't recognize them by face, but then again... he didn't recognize very many people from face.

"Hi," he waved a bit. "I'm Richie the invalid."

"Jonathan," he answered; "We've talked some over the journals; figured it was about time to start, you know, meeting people." It was a little strange finally meeting a guy he'd only seen in a half-naked picture before, but he was thankfully distracted by the television.

"Heyyyy, Mario Kart! I haven't played that in forever!"

"Jonathan," Richie repeated, and nodded, waving a little bit. "Right, hey." He remembered who Jonathan was. He didn't seem creepy enough to be the Headless Horseman. Seemed pretty normal, actually. Richie moved his feet a bit to offer a place for him to sit.

"Grab a controller!" Richie invited, cheerfully. "I call Yoshi."
